Hi, What are your 3 top mixing struggles?

I've got my room sounding good, but I still have low end issues, low end is the biggest issue, I am building better bass traps soon.

    Mexican Teles

I think they are great guitars, a friend of mine has a baja tele with bare knuckle pickups in it and it sounds better than most USA tele's.

    Mic Shootout... not very scientific...

I think no1 is the U87, no2 AKG 414, no3 Titan and no4 Solidtube. My least favourite is no3, favourite is by far no1.

Mix This: Cover of 'A Long December' by Counting Crows

that's some extremely detailed feedback, at the moment though I am way too busy to do a revision, I am about to start a major mixing project. For your info, I boosted the vocals at 2.5k, and cut the muddyness out somewhere around 300Hz, there was actually a low pass filter on it as well to...

Solar Temple - Stoner Rock (?)

I like the way it morphs into that psychedelic ending, that pitch shifting effect is great. The style is a bit more towards alternative, grunge and progressive in my opinion, not quite stoner rock to me.

Which mic should I upgrade to?

I think it's the best mic from the list by far, I just prefer the neumann sound, it's personal preference.

    EQ'ing acoustic guitar! Please help!

I'm another classical guitarist here, you really shouldn't need much EQ, sometimes I boost the air frequencies above 16kHz by 2-3dB, but usually that means the strings need changing.

    Mic Pres and Interfaces

yes I used the ISA One for a couple of years, it's a great box, especially for the money, but you might be surprised by how clean it sounds, I'd describe it as clean with a hint of colour and it also adds sheen to the high end which can be nice on dynamics and ribbon mics, the variable impedance...

How did they get the "Heart is a Drum" (Beck) sound?

good cheap starting mic for the home studio guys

    Acoustic Fingerstyle Mixing Advice

I think the guitar sounds too compressed, try lowering the ratio or not compressing it at all, sounds very flat and lacks depth, somehow the acoustic guitar sounds 'lofi' that's the only way I can explain it, like it's lacking some high end sheen and it also lacks warmth as well, maybe it's your...

building my own 4 band compressor

It's hard to beat fabfilter Pro MB for this, that is the only multiband comp I like the sound of.

    No Choice

for me the vocals are too quiet and buried in the mix, guitars a bit too loud, but they sound great.

    New Members: Introduce Yourself Here!

welcome, sounds like you've been around a while, I'm sure you would be able to help others on here, I like the sound of your music mixing electro with industrial, this is one my favourite styles of music, it would be good to hear some of your music perhaps on youtube or when you are ready to...

    Cubase vs. Pro Tools?

I'd say use cubase but only go with version 8 or 8.5, forget earlier versions, they will work but the new features in 8 in particular make it so much better. Cubase is very easy to set up, maybe I was german in a past life, but I like the complexity of it, a DAW should not be too simple, when...
