    Limiter vs. Compression

I tried the TRack Soft clipper, and it introduced too much distortion/tone change into the signal. By the time I backed it off to get rid of the tone change, it wasn't really doing much. For me, using the L3 has proven to be the best solution to get rid of the spikes with very minimal sound...

How many of you use pitch correction for your own vocals?

I think you need to meet Mr. Doppler. He would not agree with you. :-)

    Dumb question about hiss

I used Bias' SoundSoap in the past, and was able to de-hiss an old recording of my son singing, it did a very good job. That was a long time ago though, not sure what is comparable today.

    Getting Louder using plugins?

I am using Sonar Platinum. I can see the waveforms of my individual tracks, but to see the waveform of the final mix, I need to bounce the mix to a single track to examine the mixed waveform. Maybe I am using the terminology wrong. I am confused by what you are saying though, when you say...

    Getting Louder using plugins?

The biggest thing I learned on this forum that was not obvious, and that folks don't seem to share that much, is how much accumulation of low frequencies (often, un-hearable frequencies) can impact your ability to make your mix loud. I have found a visual analyzer like the PAZ (PAZ Analyzer...

How to bring to life my sampled Piano Solo?

I use this one on my keyboard tracks: PS22 Mono to Stereo Enhancer Plugin | Waves I found it does a terrific job of widening the piano across the entire space, with lots of cool and easy settings. I especially enjoy the setting which applies a much higher diffusion across the high frequencies...

Mix Review - Die To Live

Sorry, I made some adjustments and re-uploaded. Here is the latest with all the suggestions from above, new snare drum, etc. Thanks all for your suggestions, VERY helpful and I think the sound is much better now. Let me know...

Last One In The Room - alternative pop, new mix

I love this song! Only nit for me is on the first chorus, on "when i walked out" the harmony seems to detach from the melody a bit (it's tightly coupled the rest of the time). I've recently mixed a song with that some sort of tom-carry through a verse, I love it.

    real drums this time

Sounds good! one thing I noticed which is similar to some tracks I recently "fixed" is that your harder snare hits seem to be carrying a lot of high-hat with them. Now maybe that is what you want (the ring of the high-hat mixed with the whoosh of the snare), not sure. I actually had to use...

    Compressor attack setting

I had this exact problem on my drum tracks, and posted a very similar question (in fact, I had to double take as I thought I was reading back my old post for a moment when I read your question). The problem as I see it is that the transients for the drums were spiking, but what I discovered is...

Mix Review - Die To Live

Thanks jimistone. Unfortunately that guitar was tracked with the delay (it's not me playing), so I have to live with it. I still think the snare is not right (after listening in my car today), so I will keep tweaking. This one song was the most difficult of all that this band gave me (poor...

    What If 7

Interesting mix, not sure what this style is, I have no familiarity with this kind of music. missed a note around 20sec, i'd edit that out or retrack. I think overall, it just is very repetitive, with a couple breaks for the piano here and there. Agree with Steve, could use some supporting...

Mix Review - Die To Live

Ok, here is the adjusted version... found a better snare sample and shaped it a bit, reduced the boomy dominant bass, and I think I nailed the crackle. I also moved the rhythm guitar to be more center except in the intro/bass solo. Compared versions, this one is finally getting there...

    Black Mirrors - pop/rock/alternative, feedback?

It's all been said, but I just want to say I really enjoyed this listen. Great song and performance. Talent! Not sure how you produce so much, really impressive. Just giving "Last One In the Room" another listen... great song! Are you gonna put this stuff on iTunes as an album? I'd buy it.

    Original song and greetings!

What they all said... the thing that really sticks out for me is the piled on frequencies at the low end.. very rumbled - thought there was an earthquake! :-) It does sound like it was mixed in mono, everything seems in the middle. However, it sounds like you have some great takes to mix...

Mix Review - Die To Live

Thanks Triple and Vomit. Clear I need to work on the drums (snare), Bass (boomy/dominant), and figure out that damn crackle. The dry vocal is the artists' request, he likes it dry/raw on the vocal, and like I mentioned, he tracked all the verb/delay in the guitar, so I am trying to work with...

    F*@K IT - (Rap/Hip-Hop collab)

Wow... so you added the guitars to this? Freakin' amazing, i love the sound, and the way you wah wah'ed (ish) the verses. Nice guitar work! Pretty amazing. I am a huge fan of "RapCore" (heavy metal guitars and rap) -- P.O.D. for example Boom!
