R Channel, L Channel and Stereo - what the?

Thanks RawDepth, but can you explain why you "prefer to record most things in mono and create my own stereo during mixdown"? Why not just record in stereo from the outset? It will still be in stereo during mixdown. So, what is the advantage of initially recording in mono, please?

R Channel, L Channel and Stereo - what the?

This is gonna sound extremely basic - stupid even - to those who know the answer, but I don't understand why there is a R and L channel option for each track in CEP. Why would one not always just record in stereo? I guess my question is: when do you record in stereo, when do you choose instead...

recording MIDI track on CEP with AlesisSR16

I've programmed a couple of drum tracks for 2 songs I am looking to record using CEP. My drum machine is an Alesis SR16. Rather than simply recording the current drum backings to CEP, then multitracking with guitars, vocals etc over the top in the knowledge that the drums can't be changed...

    Alesis SR16 (Version 1.04) - HELP!

Main thing I wanted to establish is that my machiune is behaving as it should. It evidently is. Thanks, MadAudio. Cheers

    Alesis SR16 (Version 1.04) - HELP!

Thanks, Bruce. Yes, you're right, but listening through only earphones unamped and going straight into the machine, if the velocity response is set so that the volume of the sounds corresponds to how hard you tap the pads, the drum sounds are very low. I have now set them at maximum fixed...

    Alesis SR16 (Version 1.04) - HELP!

Just bought this drum machine secondhand through Ebay - it was made in 1990, but from appearances this one is in good condition. However... When I first tried it out, tapping the pads produced sounds at the same volume as the preset patterns. Smartarse decided to wipe the previous user's...

increasing vol of quiet section: how to??

Thanks guys - I've just selected the low vol phone voice in Edit and amplified it by 10DB twice - that brings it up loud enough (possibly slightly too loud, now!). I've mixed down and the result is pretty good, although there is now a bit of a lift in background noise when the amped up parts...

increasing vol of quiet section: how to??

I have been recording some dialogue, including a phone conversation in which one of the voices was miked coming through the earpiece of the phone. Unfortunately, I couldn't amplify the mike signal up enough for the phone voice, and on the finished recording the voices recorded directly through...

    converting tape to CD

Ipdeluxe Fantastic stuff. Thanks a lot. I think you've set me up with the basics I needed to know, and now the best I can do is to try out all you've written and learn on the job. Cheers

    converting tape to CD

Ipdeluxe I want to thank you again - sincerely - for the time and effort you have put into answering my questions so thoroughly and patiently (and thanks Ozpeter for sticking with the thread, as I slowly make some advances into this new, exciting, but challenging world). I have not done any...

    converting tape to CD

Ipdeluxe Firstly, to clear something up. Think I was a bit unclear in my previous posts on one aspect. I am currently trying to record songs I have mixed down as masters on to cassette tape - so, I want to record from cassette deck to HD, then transfer to CD. I want to keep the recordings as...

    converting tape to CD

Firstly, thanks a lot, guys, for your input. WIll go direct from cassette deck to module, as you suggest. I was assuming that the sound quality would be better if I could amp up the ingoing signal from the tape, but apparently not...thanks for putting me right on this. Ipdeluxe, I thank you...

    converting tape to CD

Ozpeter Thanks for your response. Several frustrating days down the track, I am now able to get sound through the computer speakers (there was a problem with the installation of the Audigy soundcard - now rectified). I think I am beginning to get the basic picture with recording from cassette...

    HR16 drum machine kaput?

Hi. I have an old HR16 drum machine that has stopped working. I stupidly left it in a box unused for a couple of years, then found that the pads were not reactive - couldn't get a sound out of them. They had been insensitive to touch at times in the past when I had been using the machine...

    converting tape to CD

Hi. I have CoolEdit Pro 2.0 and an Audigy Platinum 2 ex soundcard, and have used neither yet. I am trying to convert a cassette tape master of some home recordings to CD, but can't work out how to get to first base. Thus far, I have my cassette player connected to a hi fi amp, which is in...
