Not sure if this question is appropriate in this section, or even on this BB, but let's see...
I have an old but good quality Sony hifi amp - was once top of the line. The attenuator pots and balance pots now need replacing, as they are noisy, and I have been told that most of the joints are...

Green Day? They weren't even bulges in their daddys' Yfronts when this pic was taken. 1977/78, sir, 1977/78! The lad concerned is now an old fart, like me...being a punk in yer youth won't save ya from the ravages of time...possibly the opposite, actually. You're right about one...
As might be gleaned by the terminologically challenged title to this post, I have NO IDEA about the sorts of effects boxes or whatever that I am seeking, or even what to call them.
I am currently recording to HD using Cool Edit Pro, and have been miking a telecaster played through an old MXR...
The amp's a Savage - I remember that much (NB: the pic ain't me!). The song he was playing would certainly not have been anything remotely Grand Funkish. For anyone very, slightly, remotely or not at all interested, the pic is of Dave "Rudolph V" Cardwell, during his days in Perth's 77/78 punk...
Thanks, lpdeluxe. Youy reply begs a couple more questions.
Is there any way of measuring whether there's lf noise and how much?
Do you have a suggested "pretty low" setting for the Scientific Filter?
People like you and thajeremy, with all your good and willing advice, have literally made it...
I have just digitised some old analogue recordings I did on a Tascam multitrack 12 years ago, and some of the songs are mixed a bit light in the bass. Any tips for enhancing the bass a bit in Edit while not affecting the rest of the mix appreciably prior to mixdown? The mix is fixed and the...
Thanks, thajeremy. Didn't realise songs used up that much space, but thinking about all the tracks etc, I guess it makes sense. I've got a DVD ROM, but don't know if I can record to DVD using that (absolutely NO experience with DVD except watching a very few DVDs - never tried recording one)...

I only want to back up patterns and songs on the SR16, not the actual sounds. (ie: I want to be able to load these patterns amd songs back into the SR16 in the future, but clear the SR16 for now, as I've run out of space to record new patterns and songs).
So, you're saying I...
I have just finished with a crop of songs and want to free the space on my HD occupied by the CEP files for these songs. Is it a simple matter of saving all files as data to a CD, or do the wav files have to be saved as music? Hopefully, I can just put all songs in their separately titled song...
I know you can back up drum patterns and songs to cassette tape, but can you back up from the drum machine to your computer HD instead? If so, how is this done, please?
Cheers
Ross
I'm not sure what you mean, hopeless. I have just finished recording 15 songs over several months and have ended up with a CD that is as loud as most commercially released CDs, and louder than many.
To be honest, I found that it was best for my purposes, despite all advice to the contrary...
I've been experimenting with recording stuff in the red, peaking in the red, peaking just outside the red etc, and have ended up with most of my current crop of songs being more in the red than out of it. It sounds upfront and loud on CD, and that's what I wanted, no pops or audible distortion...
