    5-Way Switch Wiring

I just opened up my (old) Strat and looked at it, and I stand corrected. Although it is indeed two switches on the same handle, one switch controls the pickup selection (as you say) and the other selects the tone control(s). The jumper connects the pickup selector side to the tone control...

    Buying a new strat..need help..

That doesn't look like a Strat to me (I only looked at the still shot). Not with that headstock and a 'bucker at the neck.

    This is a pretty bass.

I play bass at jams sometimes with a guy who is used to playing solo gigs on acoustic guitar, and he frequently uses a capo. Following his chord changes visually, coupled with transposition on the fly (let's see, he's playing a G but for me it's a Bb...) gets more and more difficult as the...

    This is a pretty bass.

One volume, one blend, and bass and treble for each pickup is my guess.

Speaking of Who Dat, did you see the game last night? How's your heart? :D

    Valve amp clicking noise

It's the tremelo circuit and it doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong. Do you have the tremelo/reverb switch installed? The tremelo won't work without it. It sounds to me that the tremelo is on and the intensity is set to zero. Push the tremelo button and the clicking should stop.

what's that noise when tightening my strings?

I stand corrected. I should have said "a visit to a competent guitar doctor..."

    Humbucker Installation?

Congrats! You know, and I may have said this earlier, I tricked out my Les Paul with coil taps and some exotic switching, which all works fine, but I never use it. I just play with the normal three selections. It was a good exercise in wiring and gratifying when it worked, but it didn't give...

what's that noise when tightening my strings?

A trip to the guitar doctor would be cheaper, plus you'll know that it's done right.

    Fender or Gibson?

I don't know what that means. It's a guitar with its own voice, which is different from a Tele or a Strat.

    Budget Les Pauls

I didn't have it formally appraised, but the guys who looked at said it would likely be worth $10-12K, but that would likely be parted out and I'm not gonna do that.

    Budget Les Pauls

But OTOH, playability/build quality/tone and a collectors' book value have no correlation. Having an instrument that is very valuable is a double edged sword. I have a Strat with a 1961 serial number, I took it to a guitar show and had it looked at by some collectors. It turns out that it is...

    Humbucker Installation?

When I google "suowrswitch", I get: "Did you mean: superswitch?" Since O is next to P and W is next to E, I'm betting yes. :D

    Humbucker Installation?

Ah, I see. To further complicate things, the pickups in my Strat (three standard singles, middle RWRP) has two individual black wires (no shield) per pickup, so getting them accidentally reverse phased is pretty easy, but then again, so is fixing it. I will google the megaswitch; I've never...

    50-Watt Attenuator On A 50-Watt Amp?

I have an Altair PW-5. It's pretty much bulletproof; I used it for years with a dimed 50w Marshall and it never complained. It never hurt the output tranny of the amp, either. I have also used it for a stage monitor volume control and to drive headphones from a speaker line. It's a handy...

    Humbucker Installation?

I was going by what he said in post #24:"...the old humbucker used four-point conductor wire. I took a bit of a chance with the humbucker, as I'm still not sure of the significance of the 'extra' red and green wires." The "old humbucker" I understood to be the one he is dropping into the other...
