    Mic for an iso-cab

After trying several mics in my iso set up we decided the SM57 is best overall. For cleaner sounds the SDC we used was more detailed than the 57, but did not handle crunchy stuff well at all. For one part where we wanted a massive low end we used a bass drum mic CAD KBM412 that turned out a...

    V63M as Drum Mic OverHeads?

I use a pair of V63m as overheads for jazz or lighter drummers but for bashers that tend to break up too much. I like the detail and a lot depends on placement using the Recorderman/Johns method of placement. You also have to consider the space you record in the V63m prefers to have room to...

    fretless conversion

With all the cheap fretless basses available why neuter a perfectly decent bass?

A reminder that I am a noob... (KAM Crystal)

50 bucks for a decent sounding mic is a worthy investment.

I think I have the wrong mic!

I have an EV PL84S that is nicely detailed on vox for live or scratch trax. I also used for a drum overhead on a particularly windy outdoor gig and it was quite good at that too. Also used it as a bass drum mic for a light footed jazz drummer since my usual suspects didn't work.

BUDGET mic buying, Behringer C-4, vocals/instruments?

I have been using a pair of Behri C2 mics for a while and have been happy with the results. Great on percussion and drum overheads, quite good on acoustic gtr, piano, brass and woodwinds, good ambient and stereo field mics. Never used them for vox but with the proper mic technique they should...

    MXL Drum Cube Pro

Looks interesting, love using a MXL V63M for drum overheads, looks to be the same capsule, dunno if you'd really want to mic a bass drum tho.

    Mic Advice

We have several Naiant X-S mics that we use for Linda's alto sax and clarinet for live and studio use. The sound is very accurate and organic with very little bleed and never any feedback. We have also used the X-S to record tenor sax and bass clarinet with really good results. . Naiant -...

    Can an SM58 record guitar?

Is the SM57 the same as SM58 - The SM58 has the same capsule as the SM57, aside from mounting differences2, and the input sensitivity is the same7, but the flat grille on the SM57 allows positioning so close to a sound source that proximity effect can cause low-end boost that the SM58 cannot...

    Dammit!!!!!!!!

I did this in the not too distant past,3rd finger, and used a butterfly and superglue to make it thru my gigs. At least your wang was spared the cut.

Octave pedaal that can do an octave higher, as well as lower.

I am using a Zoom B2 or B2.1u for doing this as well as other functions. There are separate octaver and pitch shifter so you can actually do both at the same time and you can save your settings. Pitch shifter can go from octave down to 2 octaves up. Tracking is very good and fast and a glitch...

    Get any new pedals lately?

NO I have actually been in a selling cycle of late but did make a trade for an Ibanez Turbo tube Screamer that was a pretty sweet pedal. My band mate bud who has been very helpful with my A/C this year got it. As far as guitar stuff goes I am still exploring the AdrenaLinn III, whatever i...

    I just buy the shoes.

Research is your friend when making purchases as is buying form a place that allows exchanges (within reason). The CAD looks interesting to me. Be sure to invest in a good quality cable and even a nice mic pre.

    I just buy the shoes.

Don't worry an SM57 is an essential mic for any musician and studio. Finding the right vocal mic can be such a challenge so much depends on your voice, style of music, budget, technique, signal chain and more so there can never be just one universal choice. A good large diaphragm condenser mic...

Has Guitar Center Marts dropped the value of guitars?

I don't ever see import brands becoming the value that vintage instruments have and Im am not sure those vintage instruments are going to loose value. There is a growing disparity between value and worth especially in the Fender line. Fender has the panache of a designer brand but they are in...

You can also print or record the effects sound by first assigning the input to the multi effects and then to a track/channel.

    Bass amp for home recording

Most anal, perhaps. You're not the only one who cares about tone. I generally record direct and if needed re-amp or send the signal thru a modeller of some sort. A bass preamp is a good idea but you don't necessarily have to go the rack mount method there are a lot of preamp stomp boxes these...

    Fifty dollar mics

I have 2 Peavey PVi2 mics that were super cheap we use for speaking & B-vox at gigs and talkback. They have been used several times for recording scratch vox that worked surprisingly well, in fact sometimes trax were quite usable. Very accurate and sensitive for a dynamic with really good...
