    pk file problem

pk files are essential for the display of waveforms and the program recreates them if you delete them - unless it's a file format which doesn't have them. If you are experiencing slow loading time, it's probably because you have deleted the pk files, or because you have locked tracks but not...

    echo mia compatibility?!?!?!?!?!?

The supplied drivers have been fine for me with all versions of Cool Edit / Audition, but there were some oddities with Cubase SX until I downloaded and installed the latest drivers.

    Need Help!!!!

Need a better title for your question to get a quick reply... anyway, try clicking on the "In1" button beside the track.

Anyone bought the COOL EDIT PRO 2 book?

There's a few around - which one? (But I've not ready any of them!).

    Buss into a buss.....

You may need to mix down some tracks to a new track, mute the original tracks, then add further processing to the new track.

    Compress all tracks

For most purposes it's best to apply any processing after recording. Otherwise you might find you've got a great recording permanently messed up by the wrong processing. Relevant subjects in the manual might be Dynamic Processing, Hard Limiting, and Group Waveform Normalise.

    Batch process multiple files?

Try the manual for "batch" or "script" or "group waveform normalise". I don't use any of those myself so can't comment further.

    converting tape to CD

Uninterruptible Power Supply (I think!) - more than a surge protector, these things have a constantly charged battery which powers your system through an inverter, so whatever happens to the incoming power will not affect your system. They usually have enough battery reserve to enable you to...

    plugins?

An autotune-like effect is built in to Audition 1.5 but you can't use it in any other version. Try the free download of AA 1.5 maybe.

how do you think the effects/etc, in adobe compare to others?

"and really suits my needs" - exactly. You've got to think in terms of the job you are trying to do and the money you've got to spend. Cool Edit / Audition generally has a fine reputation for the quality of its processing algorithyms (sp?) - I use a SENSIBLE amount of hard limiting on...

Anyone bought a copy of Adobe Audition off of Ebay?

There's a site (and I won't give you the name) which claims to sell a variety of Adobe products at ridiculous prices. Buried on the site is some small print which says that what they are selling is backup copies of software you promise you already own. You might get 10 to 20% off from a...

    converting tape to CD

Here the power failure was the "off on off on" kind in the space of a few seconds. Two of the PCs here were fine, but the third could not be persuaded to reboot - "Windows Protection Error" - I tried many things gleaned from the net, but to no avail. Looked like corruption of drivers and the...

    converting tape to CD

Nothing more from me for the moment (my PC got zapped by a power failure and I'm busy reinstalling EVERYTHING - grrrrr - yes, I should have a full backup and a UPS....).

    Adobe Audition 1.5 Manual

http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/magic/audition/win/2.02/audition_user_guide.pdf might still get the 1.0 manual?

    Metronome shmetronome

Any time you use "What you hear" you are recording.... what you hear - probably including all previous tracks you've recorded. Mute it / deselect it.

    Hiss removal strangeness

Favourite saying of mine - "When all else fails, read the manual". And I admit to tending to work that way!

    converting tape to CD

"You can record WITH reverb or other effects, depending on the version you have; I don't think you can preview without recording." - I'm not sure whether you meant what you said, but I'd clarify that no version of Cool Edit / Audition allows you to apply an effect to a track while it is being...

    I Need Help With Editing.

It depends very much on the material and the amount of noise, but my experience is that burbles and other artifacts become noticable if you try to reduce by more than about 15dB. The slider control often gives best results when between 50 and 80%. Also, the small frequency graph control can...

    I Need Help With Editing.

Exactly what are you trying to do, and what goes wrong when you try? You'll get more answers if you ask more specific questions. You've both mentioned reducing hiss - where is this hiss coming from? Have you tried noise reduction rather than hiss reduction? Try going through the steps in the...
