    Sound Card Dilemma

yo, you're crazy. Has anybody checked the signal to noise ratio on the layla 24? The layla has way better a/d converters and it has midi in, out & thru so you'll save $50 you would have spent on that USB connection. And I learned my lesson about midiman mic preamps, they're cold as shit (I...

Basic Realistic Requirements for A Computer?

Yo GBVGBV, just a warning to ya about the digi 001. If you plan on using an external mixer with the digi 001 you should know that the outputs aren't balanced. If you use 8 unbalanced wires in your signal flow path you'll be adding a lot of noise to your mix. Also, I don't think that the inputs...

    mixer to computer?

Only $2,000! I'd be recording right now with that much money. Now you can easily record great songs with that budget as long as your computer doesn't suck. I'm sure you've heard it before, 500mHz, 128megs, and 7200RPM hard drive. If I were you I'd buy a Mackie 1604VLZ Pro (not that crappy Alesis...

    Darla 16 or Delta 44/66

Save the money. Wait until you can afford a Layla. The 20 bit version is under $700, the human ear can't tell the difference between 20 and 24 bit. Then you can record 8 tracks at a time and hook up a real mixer to mix your drums.

    soundcard to replace Digi 001

I'm a student at FullSail studying to be a recording engineer. I was thinking about getting the Digi 001 because about ten kids in my class have it and they all love it, plus you can save your work to disk and take it into real studios. My question is why does your computer keep crashing and if...

Basic Realistic Requirements for A Computer?

Building the computer by yourself or having a friend do it is definitely the cheapest way. And remember, you can always start off with just a decent computer and beef it up when you get the funds. I've been recording on a 500mHz, 128meg, and 10gig homemade computer. It works great for me.

    Digi 001, SeaSound, MOTU's 2408mkII

I sent back my SeaSound Solo because I really didn't like the mic preamps.

I'll tell you what: sonic foundry plugins are CRAP

The effects that come with Vegas suck. You need Timeworks reverb and the Waves Rennaissance compressor.
