Another Drum Overhead Mic Thread (but not the usual type)

Cool. I know there's several varients, any in particular or do you suggest them all? I'm planning on keeping them for the time being. They're not bad on vocals, have this good "crispy" aspect to them.

Another Drum Overhead Mic Thread (but not the usual type)

Bump. Still leaning towards the 4050's....any other suggestions for LDC's for drum overheads that are an upgrade from Rode NT2a's in the $500-1000 range (each)?

Another Drum Overhead Mic Thread (but not the usual type)

Sorry, should have mentioned that. Yes, I want to stay with an LDC. Unfortunately, not well. They've been in their bags a lot early on, but I think they've been on the stands above my drums constantly for a good 3-4 years now. My next mics I'll definitely take care of better.

Another Drum Overhead Mic Thread (but not the usual type)

Been a month or two since I've hung out here, so hello guys! Its been a long time since I've gotten any recording gear, but I don't think its GAS affecting me. Since I first had my studio in 2007 I've used a pair of Rode NT2a's for my drum overheads and general utility mics, and they are...

Finally used DensitymkIII on my master buss

For my overheads, I don't adjust much. Set it to Setting 4, then up the gain pretty hot....not maxed but pretty cranked. It oozes awesome sauce.

    Trailer for my Musical!

Well as this is a purely recorded piece (for now) there's really nothing visually that I have to show, aside from images that are related to it (images of the characters) as well as events (for example, there's an image of a battle during the preview of a song that's a battle song, etc.). So...

Finally used DensitymkIII on my master buss

I've never used Density mk iii on the master buss, but I always use it for drum overheads. Its niiiiiice sounding!

What does the term A/B a track mean?

That's pretty much it. Its just comparing two different settings.

    Making a Channel Switcher

I have made a basic splitter before, taking a single 1/4" input into two simultaneous 1/4" outputs that works well. Now I want to make one where I can switch between single outputs. At band rehearsal yesterday, my keyboardist decided to start using more organ, and we ran it through one of my...

    Knowing how to produce drums

Since I'm a drummer, I have never had a need for doing midi drums, aside from composing. With that being said, velocity is going to be your most important tool. Manually edit the velocity on everything, that goes a long way.

need a normal home stereo cd play

When I built my stereo system about two years ago, I ended up picking up a DVD-Audio player from a Goodwill for $20. It plays all my CDs just fine, and the few DVD-A's I have as well!

    mixing drums

I only had to use a gate once, and that was with manual editing. Recorded my bass drum with an At4047, got tons of cymbal bleed, no way to get rid of it, definitely noticeable on the overall mix and I couldn't mix the bass drum without it affecting the cymbals in an obvious way. So I had to...

How to mix solo drums (and some showing off)

Oh thank you! Didn't catch the edit. Yeah its definitely mixed better. I pushed harder against heavy compression on the master buss, but you kinda need to with solo drums or else the huge crest factor will not get you any decent volume on the drums. Its really a fun groove. I did an...

Good Microphone for French Horn (Brass Instrument) Recording

Fathead II is what I have. Can't beat it.

Good Microphone for French Horn (Brass Instrument) Recording

A Horn is a very warm sounding instrument. You can use a ribbon, like a Fathead, but then it may be too warm sounding. Or maybe not? I tend to use ribbons on wind instruments, but those tend to have a bit of harshness in the higher registers that would just be accentuated by a condenser.

    Ribbon Microphone

I use ribbons on all guitar cabs, as well as strings, and even though I've only done it once or twice, use them on wind instruments as well.

How to mix solo drums (and some showing off)

So made another video. Turned up the bass drum a bit, moved the mics around so the snare wasn't so hot, so its more even volume with the toms. Think I used a bit more compression on the master so it has a squishier, more filled out feel to it.

    Sage Audio Online Mastering

I'll bookmark them. I'm going to need someone to master my album, but its long (21 songs/95 minutes...double album) so I'm trying to see what sort of deals I can get.
