get a cheap casio on ebay. I picked one up for like 130$ and it is touch sensitive has like 300 instruments and midi in/out. Its not a nice keyboard by any means, but it was extremely cheap and gets the job done.

I wouldn't invest in outboard. Just because crappy plug-ins suck doesn't mean the goods ones (waves or UAD) plug-ins do. Sending your mix through crappy conversion into so-so outboard gear IMO won't sound as good as some good plug-ins. DMP3 would be good on a fairly limited budget, but i...

how are you only squeezing in 15 tracks? i have a crap computer (less than 3 ghz, 1GB Ram, 140 GB HDD) and i can fit 39+ tracks with three plug-ins apiece on each track?
