Dealing With Volume Spikes In The Recorded Waveform

Well.. depends. I guess you are more right. But if attack is say 1000000s then it wont ever start compressing, and the release doesn't really matter. And if the release is very very long, it doesnt really compress it. It does lower in volume when the threshold is exceeded but after that it...

Dealing With Volume Spikes In The Recorded Waveform

Yep. Actually very very long attack and release mean no compression at all.

Dealing With Volume Spikes In The Recorded Waveform

I know, but it is still the same. After all you can't think "this is a snare drum so I need to use slow attack", and even if you would, 'slow' doesn't define how slow (in some context 10ms might be 'slow', and in some other 100ms might be slow, and there is a huge difference between those two)...

Dealing With Volume Spikes In The Recorded Waveform

I would remark that understanding what attack and release are and what they do doesn't yet give the ability to learn to set them right. That will need also good ears and a lot of practise. I just read an excelent mixing book and I feel that I understand the concepts behind them really well...

    Mayday

Sorry but it sounds weird.. :( Because the vocals are on other channel and guitar on other. I might be able to see what you were trying to achieve, but Im not really sure it works. It doesn't sound live, because I've never seen a singer perform in the other side of the stage all the time. Also I...

Dealing With Volume Spikes In The Recorded Waveform

It does compress all the signals that go above the threshold. He ment that if you for example use a compressor with a certain threshold and a high ratio like 10, the signals shooting over the threshold will be attenuated a lot, but they will anyway go over the threshold (though ten times less...

    The limits of non performance?

One of the all time best selling bands in Finland, Leevi and the Leavings, did only two small gigs in their whole career. Nevertheless, they have 16 studio albums + 12 collections and they are widely regarded as a legend. Does this answer to your question? :)

    Work in Progress

Same here! Looks soooo cool and funny! :D And oh yeah, an absolutely wonderfull song! If you measure songs quality on how loud you want to play it out, your song surely made a new record on this forum. Very inspiring song too, even though I do very different genres than this. A pity there...

    new tune mixed >> "Funkafied"

This I could call a master piece though I don't normally listen to this type of music. Only the ride was too loud at times. Extremely cool bass lines and guitars.

    Audio to Midi Pitch detector

No one knows any? :(

my first good master! tell me what you think!

Yep, the song might be good but the mix just doesn't work. It lacks so much definition. :(

Can Autotune use an input signal as a tuning guide?

I don't know if such autotune software exist, I would guess not. The one in cubase can be controlled with midi but it is not exactly the thing you are looking for.

    Metal/Rock Song (third attempt)

Well yes, you really shouldnt post them in wav-files cause they are just HUGE.

    Road

Yep, the drums are a bit too loud. Vocals might need more compressing, not sure with current drum level. Maybe the organ could be panned more to the right to balance the piano (which also could be closer to center). Kick is quite inaudible but it wouldn't be to hard to add a sampled kick. But I...

Please Critique - Powerpop Folk Tune

Does it lack some low-mids? And yes, it's more of a question than a statement.

    Please check my Mix?

I also think the snare is too loud at start. Later you introduce loud guitars which hide the snare, but I think the solo guitars are then a bit too loud. Otherwise a nice song.

Please Critique - Powerpop Rock Tune

Hmm.. I think it could have, maybe some decades ago (not sure when, im so young), but probably not in current time. I feel like this song could have rather been from a soundtrack of some Scooby doo film for example, which I guess could be regarded as a compliment too.

    Metal/Rock Song (third attempt)

Some comments from amateur: - The guitar at start sounds to me like it isn't in tune (the higher notes), though it might be just because of some effects. - Only one guitar panned to one side creates rather bad stereo imbalance. Im not sure if you used any double tracking. If you didn't, you...
