Question about usb interfaces and analog to digital converters

Ok, so I have an HP i5-2400 quad core pc on order and coming soon (3.1 GHz - up to 3.4 - w/4 GB of RAM installed and a 500 GB hard drive, Windows 7 64 bit). I have Cubase LE which I'm going to install once it arrives, and I have a Seagate 1TB external hard drive that I'm going to set up too. My...

what's more important: processor speed or cache?

My bad, I misread the Steinberg.net website. It mentions cache in terms of the hard drive, not the processor. So basically, the pc I'm looking at has the i5-2400 with four cores, four threads, clock speed of 3.1 ghz with a max turbo frequency of 3.4 ghz, 6MB of cache (for whatever that's worth)...

what's more important: processor speed or cache?

ok so now I"m looking at an i5. what's more important with the processor: faster processor speed or cache? I'm seeing i5's with a processor speed of 3.1 ghz and with processor cache of 6mb, while I'm also seeing i3's with slightly higher processer speeds of 3.3 but only 3 or 4 mb of cache. I"m...

Are these good specs for a recording pc to use with cubase le?

Hi, I'm planning on setting up a recording pc with Cubase LE, using either a zoom recorder as an interface or a focusrite scarlett. I don't do much midi, I'm pretty much recording audio tracks, usually around 20 to 25 a project. Are these specs ok for the pc? Dell Optiplex 780 DT PC Core 2...

Help me understand something about preamps and audio interfaces

So basic question for you. If you're recording w/a DAW on a home pc, and you have an audio interface with mic preamps that aren't very good, can that be solved by buying separate preamps?

Will a Presonus Audiobox USB interface play nice with Cubase?

I'm looking at the Presonus Audiobox USB interface, primarily because I've heard they have excellent mic preamps. I noticed the Presonus comes with Studio One Artist but I'd like to go w/Cubase, either LE or Artist. Just want to make sure the Presonus will still work well w/Cubase. Any thoughts...

How's this for a system to run an older version of cubase?

Not sure on the processor though I can try to find out. No idea what plugin's I'll use. In terms of effects, I'd probably just use the typical reverb/delay/compression/eq on most tracks, plus a virtual bass sound on the bass. Does that help? It's important to note I do almost exclusively...

How's this for a system to run an older version of cubase?

Got a line on a used dell pc for a very good price already loaded with cubase 5 (full version) and various other recording software. I'm going to use it to record probably 20 to 25 tracks of audio (some tracks only a few measures long). How do you think this will run? Not sure on what interface...

Recording with cubase artist and Intel i3 windows setup?

Hi, I'm considering getting Cubase Artist 7. I've seen pretty good prices on new pc's with Intel i3 core processors. There are a couple I'm seeing with 6 GB of RAM and 1 TB harddrive. I know that fits into the general specs provided by steinberg for cubase, but I'm trying to get some real world...

Help! I need a soundcard for Windows 98!

I need a soundcard for recording on a Pent III running Windows 98. I'll be using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. I need something that sounds better than by Soundblaster Live card. Please help! Oh, I don't want to spend more than $100. Any suggestions?

Can i use my amps head for a preamp?

After a little investigating on this, I've found out that the Weber attenuators have a line out, and they serve as a load dump. So you could set it to load dump (otherwise known as dummy load) and run your amp's speaker out into that so you don't blow up your amp's transformer, then run the...

Can i use my amps head for a preamp?

I don't know about the soundcard part, but you can get a really nice, and cheap, amp attenuator from a company called Weber which can serve as a load dump. People sometimes use them to run their signal directly into a pa without blowing up the transformer of your amp. You'd want to get a...

RayC, which recording program and soundcard were you using on the PentIII? Also, what operating system is on that? Windows XP? Could it run MIDI?

Ok, I want to upgrade my computer, but what should I get?

Yeah sorry I should have been more clear in my original post. When I said upgrade my computer, I meant upgrade to a new computer. Sorry about that. I wrote that post in a hurry. It was a long day yesterday.

Ok, I want to upgrade my computer, but what should I get?

My wife and I are planning on upgrading our computer some time in the next few months, and I'd like to get something that's better for recording. Our budget's going to be somewhere around $700 (I think). Right now we have an old Compaq Presario, Pentium 3, 667 megahertz, Windows 98. I think...
