FMR RNC vs. ART PRO VLA II

I bought an RNC right after they first came out. I used to use it on a stereo buss for compressing back up vocals and sometimes the drum mix. It can sound really good on certain applications, but I never thought it was as that great. I haven't used mine in at least 4 years. It's very over rated...

    Vintech Dual 72

I have a 1272 that I bought new directly from Vintech about 11 years ago. It does not match the sound of "real" Neve modules I've used in other studios over the years, but, it is an extremely good mic pre and well worth every penny I paid for it. Lately, I've been using a Vintech 573. Honestly...

    question about tascam dm 4800

I bring external Mic Pres into the DM4800 using the channel inserts. You could also use the Assignable Returns, but I don't detect any real sonic advantage and it's more work, for me, to patch to the returns. If I had a dedicated A/D converter, which I don't, I'd probably use one of the digital...

    tascam dm 4800 monitoring question

For my usage, there is really no difference between the Large and Small control room outputs. I use the Large output for my main mixing/monitoring speakers(Mackie HR824s). I have the Small outputs going to an alternate set of speakers(Alesis Monitor1's) that I use to compare mixes for a...

    Quadraverb?

The original Quadraverb is a stereo unit, 2 in & 2 out. It gets it name from having up to 4 effects at one time. It's got 100 pre sets, but, you CAN edit them all you want and save them as well. It's a good basic unit but critical listening will reveal lots of noise in the decay of the effects...

    CAD Equitek E-200

Got curious and opened up my E-200. There are 2 9v batteries. Very easy to get to and replace. Both of the batteries in mine still have power. That seems amazing.

    CAD Equitek E-200

As long as you have Phantom Power on your mixer or pre amp, the batteries should not be an issue. I haven't touched the battery in 15 years of use.

    CAD Equitek E-200

I bought one direct from the factory about 15 years ago. This is still my fist choice mic for vocals. Great mic with a vintage sound to it; it's got character.

Alesis Sr 16 quirky problem with fills

My recollection is that the last beat of the fill always replaces the first beat of the following pattern. So, what ever you want on the first beat of the post fill pattern must be programed in the fill. Once the post fill pattern has played once it will revert to playing only what is programed...

    Rode NTK VS MXL V69

I have both an NTK and an SM7. They are very different mics, but both can be really great with the right application. The SM7 is a more flexible mic that will sound good for more things. I bought it for high SPL vocals, but I've used it with great success on Snare, Kik, and Bass. The NTK is the...

    Alesis DM5 problem

    1. Reinitialize by powering up while holding Voice and Output. 2. Check the power supply. If you are using the wrong power supply, it may look like it's working but not have audio. The Alesis power supply is AC output, if you are using a DC output adapter it will not function correctly.

    Best pedals for SR16

If you have to hit the pedal twice to get the pattern to change, you're using a latching pedal, which is basically an on/off switch. This is the wrong type of pedal. The SR16 uses an un-latched pedal, which is the same thing that you would use as a sustain pedal for a synth. Any pedal designed...

    My CAD EQUITEK E-200 experience.

I've owned and used an E-200 since the mid nineties. Truly a fantastic mic. At the time I bought it, I was renting a Neumann U-47 to record vocals for a singer who insisted no other mic would do(actually it was the producer who insisted). Naturally I did an A/B test with the two mics. Yes, the...

    Shure SM7b

The SM7 is my "goto" mic for really loud screaming vocals.I also occasionally use it for Snare and Bass. It always does a great job. I've used it with the stock mic pres on the Mackie 8-buss, an Alesis mixer, and a Tascam 4800. I've never had a problem getting a good level and low noise out of...

    let me see your studio!

new desk Here are some photos of my home made desk. It took me 3 weekends to build but probably could have been done in 1 if I was more motivated. It’s mostly laminated pine from home depot. The only parts special ordered were the rack rails and the keyboard tray. It’s held together with L...

    Multimix 16 USB

My MultiMix 8 USB has ten inputs that can go simultaneously to the computer. The MultiMix 16 should have a total of 18 inputs that go to a computer. Are you sure that you are connected to a USB 2 input on your computer? I've got both the USB and the Firewire MultiMix mixers and the inputs and...

    Peavey Classic 30 Extension Cab

I'm using a Classic 50 head. I friend suggested I try an Avatar cab. It turned out to be a great choice. I got a 2X12 cab with mixed Celestions. It's great for recording in stereo. You can find reviews at harmony-central.com. It's a great choice.

    Is the AT2020 considered bright?

I would not describe the 2020 that I own as a bright mic. On the contrary, mine's a little dark, at least on vocals. I would not be surprised if it did have a harsh top end response as a drum overhead, however. I use a pair of AT4041's for drum overheads and I get a very clean and accurate sound...

Alesis XD Digtal Inline Mixing Console

I worked in Tech Support at Alesis for 11 years. I saw this board in the engineering department a bunch of times. A buddy of mine snagged one whenever Alesis had an inhouse firesale just before going bankrupt, I suspect you may now have that same one.

Alesis XD Digtal Inline Mixing Console

This board never mad it out of Beta. My recollection is that there are a few Midi-Verb 4 effects processors in it. I don't think there could have been more then about 4 that were ever put together. I'm sure all documentation went into the garbage when Alesis went belly-up, but the project had...
