    Outboard Gear? Is it necessary?

But you conveniently ignore my point about not overtaxing the CPU if I don't have to. I'd much rather that the computer is capturing the sounds than giving the vocalist some "comfort 'verb." Grok?

    Outboard Gear? Is it necessary?

You are quite correct in all your assumptions! And as I said before, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

    Outboard Gear? Is it necessary?

The way I'm running it with analog gear works just fine for me. Why overtax my CPU when I don't have to? I appreciate your effort, though, really.

    Outboard Gear? Is it necessary?

I started out in the analog world and have always used a mixer and outboard gear. That hasn't changed much since I went digital. Most of my signals are passing through the mixer before they get to the computer. The main exception is my drums: I use a combination of an M-Audio Octane and a DMP3...

OK What is this crap on my Otari mx70

Then how come it took me twice to learn never to leave a full glass of wine sitting right in front of my mixer? :o :D

The coordination thing comes with time. If she's serious and practices every day it won't take that long.

And when you demag, make SURE that the machine is OFF! This is very important. I always took the extra step of disconnecting my 38's ins and outs when demagging, though some might say that was going too far.

I'm using 2 Echo Layla 24/96 interfaces and running Sony software - mainly Vegas 5 - on XP Pro. It runs fine using the WDM drivers. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Thanks anyway.

    Pretty Basic Question.

Maybe he doesn't need compression. Maybe using a volume envelope is enough. I'm sick of how the knee-jerk reaction is "stick a compressor on there."

    Pretty Basic Question.

What software are you using? And no need to type in all caps.

That's what makes me think it's sticky-shed. Looks like binder and oxide to me.

Why must my mono songs become converted to "stereo" on cd

I "released" after hearing those tracks. Fortunately, puke is easy to clean up.

OK What is this crap on my Otari mx70

It looks like "sticky-shed" to me. And even if it's not, I'd say it's time for a new alignment tape.

    Outboard Gear? Is it necessary?

I've had bad luck with ASIO. The drivers just don't work for me. So using outboard gear has been necessary for the kind of things I posted about earlier. I saw your racks and racks of gear. You are obviously above the level of mere "home recording" and should remember this when posting here.
