I'd say an MRL in good condition is a good thing to have, come to think of it.. :)

    Machine alignment

You could run a 1k tone into it, make sure the input level says 0VU. Then hit record and run it in Repro mode, then set Rec gain to 0. Do the same thing for 10k and adjust Rec EQ to 0VU. You wont really know where the deck sits Bias or operating level wise, but at least your electronics will be...

    RMGI GOO Cleanup...

I will contact RMG today about it and see about getting a batch number. My rep told me the tapes "have been sitting here a while" before I bought them. So I'm sure they weren't the freshest stock. My deck is about as clean as it gets now. The take-up reel I was using was the hardest to get...

    RMGI GOO Cleanup...

The pinch roller is good, as far as I can tell. Very little wear. I ran a shop reel of 457 last night for a couple hours and it played nice and smooth, sounded great as always. It seems like the glue fell off the tape. I cannot for the life of me clean up this mess. I've literally cleaned the...

    RMGI GOO Cleanup...

Hi Guys, I have a bit of a problem on my hands. I am doing some demo work with some peeps using my Akai 4000ds. The deck is in tip top shape and sounds great. We have been using up some Quantegy 457 rolls I've had since 1998. Everything sounds great. Last weekend we needed some fresh tape, so I...

The Right tape for Akai 4000DS

Hi guys, I will be doing some on location recording with an Akai 4000DS very soon. Would the best tape be RMGI LPR35 for this machine? Would a 7" reel of ATR be too thick for the transport? I would rather go with ATR, I've had funny shed issues with RMGI in the past.. Thoughts?

need help with MX5050-8 reel height adjustment

You may want to make sure it's not the sides of the machine being hiked up too high. This happens to mine sometimes if it's moved and carried by the sides of the machine. Simply loosening the 6 allan screws on the sides and pushing the sides down and re-tightening fixes the reel rubbing problem...

    Transporting Otari MX-80

I did not get a reason from them. They said "I would not recommend to lay the machine on its side, it's not designed to be that way, so we don't know what's gonna happen." Better safe than sorry I guess.

    Transporting Otari MX-80

Update: I've been talking to someone from Otari and they informed me that they DO NOT recommend laying the larger Otari decks sideways. I guess I will be transporting it in the upright position.

    Transporting Otari MX-80

Thanks for the help guys. I guess leaving the cards in would be ok, I wasn't sure. I may try hauling it on its side, that way I won't have to get a van with a lift gate. The only thing that makes me weary is putting stress and weight on components that were never designed for being in a...

    Transporting Otari MX-80

Hello everyone. I am looking for some advice on how to move an Otari MX-80 24 track recorder a short distance. My plan is to remove the audio cards and lay the machine on its side in a minivan. It won't be going too far, only a few miles. Is it alright to lay these machines down for moving? Any...
