    multitrack vs computer

It’s graphical - just small and limited - but I know what you mean about the lack of distraction - I do that in Logic - you just set it up that way.

    Advice wanted

Heritage recommends using the Mic Level input on your Interface - XLR out to XLR in - it outputs 600 Ω - with both set to unity - test your levels - BTW your Heritage audio HA73 preamp is going to add distortion and color your sound - so you have to experiment to get the correct level - I...

    multitrack vs computer

Digital Audio Worlstation- fancy name for recording on a Computer with software (Like Reaper, Logic, Cubase etc..) - how is the jack wonky? Is the connector failing or something?

    down

I would add some horn action in there - and let that Gal take off on vocals - she seems like she’s holding back - great mix and balance.

    multitrack vs computer

IF nothing is wwong with unit - why not? I’d be concerned about only being able to write CD’s - other than that for what you are doing - and your work flow with which you do it - it’s fine - SM81s are good mics BTW - they might be old - but are certainly useful - I will say this - with recording...

Can I stand on a piece of metal to ground myself instead of buying a hum eliminator?

I just have it in my Studio Room - I had a 80amp service wired just to my room - straight from the breaker box.

    Are instrumentals 'songs'?

Well I’m in the camp that everything is a song - even at that I would describe TopGun as a Musical Piece - most sound tracks I would consider them musical pieces.

Old gear - tenuous link to the forum, but maybe interesting? This is Betty.

Soo they had to anticipate cues? Just incredilble.

Do you like the rack sound on other things besides guitar?

Can I stand on a piece of metal to ground myself instead of buying a hum eliminator?

I use Isolation transformers and Balance Power for the incoming power - it is a silent system completely insulated from any external noise, glitches , appliances etc….and my amps respond according - some of my older amps run at less than 120 - my Hiwatts run and sound best at 105 volts - so I...

Can I stand on a piece of metal to ground myself instead of buying a hum eliminator?

I have ISO transformers on my electrical feeds to my room - have for years - amps and just about everything are dead quiet - I used to use a similar system live and it work work very well - but I remember the days of my Hiwatts (which were relatively quiet) and pedals - thank god drummers are loud!

Do you use a DAW in your setup? Interesting approach. - the only thing I see with using rack effects is the limitations - which maybe be an advantage in that you have to commit to sounds - but I would never have 25 compressors on hand if I needed them for the tracks - still kind of old school...

    Are instrumentals 'songs'?

Isn’t a song a song no matter if has vocals - spoken words - repeated words occasional - Tequilla comes to mind - it’s song right?

Can I stand on a piece of metal to ground myself instead of buying a hum eliminator?

That’s different than the OP - he wanted to electrocute himself apparently - maybe he did unfortunately - he certainly wasn’t listening to the advice he was given - he also said he was sick - I hope nothing happened to him.

    desk positioning

Bass at 15khz? Do you mean Mids at 1.5Khz? Bass is sorta omni directional - if he has ports on the back it would be - hence the vocal shields like devices - I would like to try it out - audio is as devious as most people think.

    desk positioning

You could be right - but how would it reflect? On the return? If you put Vocal Shield setups behind the speaker I think it would help somewhat - No?

    desk positioning

I would put the desk on the French Window side - you don’t necessarily have to hang a curtain on it then - how high is the ceiling? - a Diffusion panel above the desk would be good too - something like this one.

    This Old House

It’s a really cool retro 70s song to me - reminds me of the singer songwriter era - great job - the only thing I hear it is a little too quiet to me - and if you wanted to fix a couple of the vocal cues - maybe - there is a lot of charm in the delivery.

How to remove back round noise from vocal stem

One way is to duplicate the track then null out the noise - another is surgicaly cut it out with Parametrics, Compression and other filtering - another way is to use RX11 and attack the noise headon - as @TalismanRich noted - what kind of noise (s)?

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Okay I lied about being the final mix - I fooled around today and came up with this mix. @Emiel I’d be interested to know what you think.
