There's another function for velocity. If you have an electric kit with good sensitivity you get more of a feel of a real drummer, velocity wise. I've never successfully got the Velocity function to work well as a random setting with programmed drums and have always done each hit individually...

I can't do screenshots right now but I will tomorrow when I get a chance. From what I have observed, the humanize function pushes the notes randomly left and right, off the beat. Say a HiHat and Snare that were both on the same beat, one forward, one back but never not back or forward together...

You're right, it doesn't do much at all! It just moves things slightly left or right off the beat, randomly left or right with some computer generated algorithm, which we all know, can't faux a human. The more you increase it, the worse it sounds, in my experience. Comparing the effect of that...

Sampled drums are a means to an end for me. When I can play better, I'll go the "real" drums, mic'd up, route. A lot of good stuff has come from "one man bands" over the years. Even as far back as the 50's, Eddie Cochran recorded a bunch of instruments by overdubbing himself. :thumbs up:

You could use something like this BPM Counter to find an approximation of the BPM of the mp3/wav. Then import the track into your DAW with that BPM set and line it up. Give yourself a 4 click intro if needed, etc. The problem with some tracks will be them not being recorded with a click and...

What ^^^ BM said. I use GComp, pretty much exclusively now, and that has In/Out Gain. On other Comps In is sometimes called Pre. It's just basically before and after the compressor. I've never needed to touch the In Gain. Out is useful, sometimes. :thumbs up:

I don't know about installing them in a different place but you could move them from the Reaper plugins folder to where you want them and then rescan for new plugs, including the folder you move them to. That'd be the easiest way.
