At what stage is it better to EQ?

No, you see, what you do, is you take a radio shack mic, then you stick the instrument in a room (make sure it's square and that there's no sound absoption on the walls so you get lots of standing waves). Then, you set the compression threshold as low as it can go with the fastest attack and the...

    Which cab? Or both?

We're going to be recording bass pretty soon, and we're mapping out a battle plan. The facts: our bass player does lots of "slap and pop" stuff (think Incubus S.C.I.E.N.C.E.), likes to have a moderate mid scoop between 300-900hz, and we have a lot of room to work with in the between 500hz -...

    Digital Recording - Analog Mixdown

I was considering doing this exact same thing.... especially since we would have to convert a sample rate from 48 to 44... might as well mix down to analog tape, then back into the computer at 44 and get a little "warmth". We'll just have to see how it sounds...

Best effects/processing for vox over heavily distorted guitars...

Okay, I'm just kinda gathering data, and find out as many different tricks to try as possible. What are some of the best/most common ways make melodic vocals to not get buried under, and be understandable over heavily distorted guitar tracks? Think Staind, Hoobastank, Incubus... except with...

    Dither down now or later?

AHHHH!!!! I just reallized I'm probably confusing people....... asi9 = me..... I reset my cookies one day at work and couldn't find my old password, but I found one for an older account (UberGawkman), so I just started using that. I was posting as asi9 at home, because that computer is still...

Deep mixing: when you could not mix bad even if you wanted to

Hey, I kinda already do this..... I spend a lot of time surfing the net, listening to a few select cds that I want to sound similar too. Sure, my mixes don't sound exactly like them, but the relativeness is there.... the amount of low end from the kick drum is really close to the other mix...

    Dither down now or later?

Yeah, I reallized that but was too lazy to change it. Sample rate conversion... dither..... what's the difference? I'm gonna go boil me some Hot Pockets now...

    I don't feel like a guitar player.....

Ahh... I'm feeling all better n stuff..... never intended to get such a serious response.... And yes, I do like just sitting down and playing the guitar just because it's there.

    I don't feel like a guitar player.....

This is kinda general.... not even sure if it belongs in this forum and maybe not in the cave, but it is about playing guitar.... sorta... I've been playing guitar for about three years. I'm not bad by any means, people compliment me on how well I play for how long I have been playing, the...

Open wave files with Soundforge through Cakewalk....

Question: you know how if you chop up wave files in Cakewalk audio view and select them all, each edit will open as a seperate wave file in Soundforge. However, it still does the same thing when you combine all the edits back into one solid track. How do you get Soundforge to recognize the track...

    Getting people to come back.

This is something we would love to do.... a lot of people seem to think that bands suck if they are local.... I mean, if they are local and they're good, how come their not signed  ? Getting gigs opening for bands in our genre would definitely be beneficial... but it seems that...

What's wrong with my set up/technique?

That's very similar to how I recorded my first recording, except I didn't even have a mixer, haha.... I recorded midi out of my computer onto tape deck while combining it with a guitar that went into the line in of the soundcard..... then played that to a VHS tape, then played that VHS tape back...

It's not the greatest image, I'm sure someone has a better one (and hopefully so, so I can print it out), but you should at least get an idea from this.....
