Personally, this is the way I organize per song, this song title folder is inside album folder if its an album project:
SongTitle
|-------RecordedTracks
|-------Raw MixDowns
|------------OriginalMix
|------------Remix1
|------------Remix2...
I take a listen to some demos created by EZ Drummer at their official website and got blown away by the results and I would think everything is possible with the right programming and in the right ears. I did some reading on this topic and find out it was used by Meshuggah drummer Thomas Haake...
There is an interesting paper on this in Audio Engineering Society: AES E-Library » Sound Intensity-Based Three-Dimensional Panning
It uses sound pressure vector as the physical property, then emulate them in speakers. According to study, to have that 3D panning, you need 4 loudspeakers to...
I use Saffire Pro40 for recording a live band. Although I only put 3 to 4 mics on the drum kit but I find it sufficient. It supports 8-inputs simultaneous recording with preamp on them.
The following works for me very well (all are peak values) (record to DAW, mix and master digitally)
Recording/tracking= -16dBFS to -6dBFS (maximum)
Mixing = -6dBFS to -3dBFS at the master and no clipping on each channel
Mastering= -0.2dBFS (after limiter)
Have you tried plugging your microphones directly into the USB audio interface inputs? Microphones need preamp and most audio interface have pre-amps on its input so I would use them first. The signal chain goes like this:
Microphones === > Audio Interface Mic Input ===> Laptop USB input
This...
Firewire 800 is faster but Focusrite recommends Firewire 400 for Saffire audio interfaces. You can read it here: Saffire Product Troubleshooting - Connection Difficulties .: Focusrite Answerbase
So you will be using Firewire 400 connections for your Saffire Pro 24. I am using Saffire pro 40...
According to Apple: "The MainStage interface is designed especially for live performance", so it can be done.
For the requirements, you can get it here: Apple - Logic Studio - Technical Specifications
I'm a songwriter myself and one mistake I realize is writing lyrics that does not relate to people's emotions, situations, etc. So if you ask yourself to whom is this song targeted to? It is why songs like "You're my inspiration" by Chicago, "Endless love" by Diana Ross/Lionel Richie become hits...
Saffire USB 6 have high Z inputs. I checked around and it has a 2K ohm input for microphone inputs and greater than 10K for line inputs. It should be enough to get a great sounding guitar or vocal recording.
Have you tried assigning each track output of the recorder to each channel input of the mixer? You can try looking at this tutorial: CHOOSING A STUDIO MIXER
The output of any microphone is very weak. In fact if you plugged it directly to any recording gears that do not have pre-amp unit on it, it would sound weak and noisy. The output of microphone are in microphone levels. To strengthen the output, it would be passed to a pre-amp where it boost the...
Diffusers are important in live room. It can naturally spread the reverberations made from instruments to be recorded particularly drums, guitar cabinets, etc. However for control rooms, especially small, I would personally kept it as dry/dead as possible so more absorption materials are needed...
I think you have the required equipments for your portable studio. I would recommend bringing an extra external hard drive for your backup. Also regarding pre-amp I find Saffire USB 6 pre-amps more suitable for singer songwriter work, though if you already have M-audo Fast track pro; its acceptable.
I do not know in Mac but in Windows, I always do plug-in installation on the OS (for Direct X or VST). Then the DAW will refresh for effects and include those successfully installed effects for use. Probably in your case, if you refresh the effects list, it might include plug-ins installed in...
Audible sound frequency is from 20Hz to around 22,000Hz. According to the theory: "sampling frequency is greater than twice the maximum frequency of the signal being sampled". So the sampling rate for acceptable reconstruction of audio signal will be 2 x 22,000Hz or around 44.1KHz.
It is why in...
There are two audio drivers commonly used in Windows. The first one is WDM which is the native Windows audio drivers. This is commonly used by consumer sound cards, etc.
However, professional audio drivers are commonly ASIO for low latency and dedicated audio processing. It is why when you...
I agree, there is a high probability of hit songs being on a band with great drummers. Think of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Beatles, Metallica, Bon Jovi, they have creative and good drummers. The song structure and arrangement is often influenced by the rhythm and beat of the drummer. In their...
Some things worth checking below:
1.) Are you using the correct ASIO drivers for your audio interface?
2.) Are you using the updated drivers for your audio interface?
3.) Does your audio interface connected to a dedicated USB controller? If you max out the USB controllers by connecting a lot of...
It depends on what you are checking. I use headphones for checking panning/stereo imaging, reverberation level, noise, hiss, etc. Although these things can be checked with a nearfield monitor, double checking them with headphones assure that what you are hearing through the monitors are indeed...
