Hello Dave,
Your shared insight probably saved me from trying to figure out why I encounter hear "hissing" with the lesser sensitivity setting (of +4 dB). (Also, I would have made the mistake of thinking the -10dB was the lesser sensitivity.)
I do have a follow up question, but since the topic...
While others may help on your specific question, you may find the following YouTube tutorial series by Phil Tipping helpful in learning your unit: YouTube.
In the Tascam forum on our site, I've only found positive comments Phil Tipping's Tascam DP32SD tutorials, which translate to the DP24SD...

Your suggestion of finding a forum relative to my stated goal is appreciated.
In closing this topic, thanks for your and others' replies toward elevating my understanding how music is made available to end users.
While building up that knowledge base elsewhere, I look forward to...
Is the dB input selection on monitors meant to match the output of any given unit or limit the dB operation of the monitors regardless of what is sent of dB from source?
Thanks, JeffF.
T-C Helicon makes a Duplicator unit (about $100) that adds a bit of artifact to a duplicated signal, just enough artifact to make it sound as if not merely a duplicated track (as the intent of the unit.) I recently purchased the unit but have not used it at this juncture for this purpose--it has...

I deeply appreciate your helping me to see where I am in learning curve. For example, may I ask what is a "CC music forum" that you suggested joining--I'm not sure of what "CC" means?
Thanks, by the way, for taking the time to search the topic for me.
Per your suggestion, I'll...

Yes, posting would be only audio tracks for Christian music (any genre in form but probably mostly Pop orientated) . . . the free-share aspect relates to distribution of songs with musicianship that are listenable but less than commercial in quality . . . the...
I initially thought to explore something of a music upload/download template for setting up and maintaining of platform from home, as hosted from a large data-storage device tied to a dedicated computer.
I've only visited YouTube for instructional videos. Would YouTube would be an option for...
Thanks Keith.
Never used it at all . . . no commentary meant in this fact, just personal choice on means of socializing. I often find it awkward to convey intent behind commenting electronically, never meaning to offend.
You have opened my eyes, however, to welcoming of technology for its...
If I were to pursue creating a free-share platform for other musicians, what would be some inexpensive options of platforms to consider? (I am not well familiarized on a technical level with distribution, commercial or not.)
Your insights are appreciated, JeffF.
Thanks mjbphotos:
I wasn't sure how often notes in the first octave might be played in Pop piano ballads though I gather from you reply it is not often.
Again, kindly of thanks--JeffF.
As I am on an entry level and choosing my mobile recording/home-mixing equipment, I appreciate your comment on my revisiting this area.
Rather than working with low-end thumping genres, I am concerned with not hearing any piano notes below what my monitors can get into the first octave (43Hz @...
As you asked about tutorials, Recording Revolution has a free guide on compression: Mix Like A Pro... - Recording Revolution. I haven't read it yet, but I have find Graham's insights helpful on the topics I have thus far read on his site.
Graham, creator of Recording Revolution, also has...
Just double checked my manual, page 23 (drawing), for my new DP24SD: The Monitor Out jack for this model Tascam is balanced.
Edited on 18 May 2018 for correction: My original reply was in in error when I stated the Monitor Out jack was shown in manual as unbalanced. I apologize for this error...
I would appreciate any feedback on Cerwin-Vega's XD8 subwoofer for its application in mixing. This may go unanswered as this may be an application not commonly associated with this subwoofer.
However, with its 35Hz bottom extension response, typical I/P and O/P options, and selectable...
Although I am speaking with merely a budding technical knowledge base, I would point out that off-axis movement with mics commonly used for vocals can also impact sound-level consistency. Increased loss of sound level occurs with greater movement left/right or up/ down away from on axis...
Thanks, Porterhouse, for providing a YouTube playlist link that has the series organized.
The link you provided the forum is a complete list of the series' videos compiled in order. I suggest that interested members use the link you provided over what I posted of approach of finding Phil's...
Update after recently buying a new Tascam DP008EX. There appears to be the same amount of play in a several of the knobs with some much firmer than others. Whether this proves to affect the duration of service is remains to be seen. I'll keep the new unit and just be careful, handling the...
