Recording XLR Mic Issue & VST Plug In Help NEED ASAP!

I still have it installed, it's indeed in the track properties window in multitrack view. There's also this button in the vertical bar with the track controls (vol, eq and bus) It probably displays "Rec 1", click it and you get another window where you can set it to only record the left track...

US-1800 balanced output suitable for unbalanced input?

Got the Tascam yesterday. I made TRS to RCA cables with cold floating. I could change it if it wouldn't work, but since it works properly I leave it this way. I also think, as you said, a pad is not really necessary. I heard no distortion from my amp with the output knob on maximum and very loud...

US-1800 balanced output suitable for unbalanced input?

Please don't be offended by my n00bness. I have ordered the US-1800 yesterday. For my income it's a pretty expensive device. So it worries me when I read that connecting balanced devices in a particular way can damage them (or my amp). Didn't mean to question your expertise as you're probably...

They should phase out selling music in general.

TASCAM US 1800 Clicking and Popping

Doesn't need to be PCI-e right? Regular PCI, USB 2.0 controllers are really cheap.

US-1800 balanced output suitable for unbalanced input?

I thought I needed a 8dB pad because the balanced to unbalanced connection already reduces 6dB. This page says you shouldn't connect the cold and common leads with active balanced units. You're sure it's safe with the US-1800? Thanks for helping me out Alan.

    Finding a quiet computer case/fan

I have installed a kit of noise reducing mats (silent and efficient power supplies) in my case. I also use very silent fans and PSU and a Zalman ZM-2HC2 hard disk cooler/silencer. My computer barely makes any noise. If you decide to use fans in your case you should consider getting dampening...

US-1800 balanced output suitable for unbalanced input?

I suppose the Tascam uses electronically balancing so the cold wire should be unconnected to get the 6dB attenuation you meant? I've read the page on the pads. I find the formulas very difficult. Can you help me get the values for 8dB attenuation? I've found a schematic for a conversion...

Behringer and the hits keep coming...

I worked at a company which had like ten small Behringer mixers, older eight channel Euroracks without effects. We used them for presentations, connecting mics and laptops to them, so no need for superb audio quality. Never had any problems with them. Behringer has its uses. I once bought a...

Audio Driver In Use/ Error (AE 3.0) - I'm stumped!

I assume you use ASIO. Go to your playback devices (right click the speaker symbol in the system tray) and make sure the Tascam is not the default device. Windows might reserve it so it's unavailable for ASIO. Also make sure there's no other software running that uses the Tascam, like a media...

    dBVU vs. dBFS

If I know a recording won't clip, for instance heavily distorted guitars, I suppose there's no need for 18dBFS headroom and I can just as well set the recording level to peak at -3dB in AA. Is my assumption right?

    Heavy Rock with Huge guitar

Cool song, never heard of it. I quickly checked it on Youtube, the quality sucked and I don't like the vocals. So I listened to your track again, I really like it. The hihats sound somewhat shrill and louder than the rest of the drums, they could be a bit softer. The guitars could have a more...

The Loudness War has NOT reduced dynamic range

I've been collecting issues of albums with the most dynamics for a year and a half now. Guess I have to get rid of my vinyl transfers and 80s cd rips and find the latest remasters, because someone came up with formulas to prove there's the same amount of dynamics regardless of the use of tools...

I must say, I couldn't make it sound as good as you did. I just pay much attention to dynamics.
