    Latest kit set up

Thanks RecMstr - I was wondering why nobody responded too. Oh well. I do understand what you were explaining with different set-ups. I tried to get a shot from behind the kit but there's no way to fit it all in one pic (too close to back wall + too low of a ceiling). So far all the players...

To Build or Not To Build...

Good info! I think it also depends on the kit you want to build. Mostly it could be simply a matter of selecting and attaching your own lugs and hardware to a shell that's pre-cut. No glue involved unless you'd want to use a wrap, which in my opinion would be pointless. I think there would...

One more pic for those who like it a lil blurry Wish I had the tripod for this shot.

    Latest kit set up

I normally set up left handed and all the other drummers I know set up righty, so I finally decided to set up the kit more symmetrically. It took some time getting used to but it's worth it - dual slave pedal, two hats, two rides two floor toms, etc. I'm still tweaking but I'm getting close...

    Snare recommendations please

I agree with the above - Mapex Black Panther (Stainless Steel is an awesome model and very versatile). TAMA too (I'd look for anything in the mid-level to Starclassic series) Both great choices. I think one of the nicest "dry" snare sounds I've worked with was my old housemate who had a Yamaha...

Xstatic is right - make sure you have a pro masterclock to match the Lynx. Cheers, Rez

Have you heard of Black Lion?

I've heard very good things about black lion mods. The only arguments I've heard to the contrary would be over the price of upgrade vs buying higher end gear like RME, Apogee and Lynx. If you have something you're using and like already the mod is definitely worth it though.

Was thinking about a RME FF 800, now I am buying...

Wow- had I known you were interested in the very best you can get regardless of price, I wouldn't have suggested the RME. That's an awesome set you have coming! Hope it exceeds your expectations!Cheers, Rez

    RNC vs. RNLA

I bought a pair of FMR RNCs a while back and leant one to a friend. He fell in love with it and I figured I'd let him keep that and just buy a new one. Then I got to thinking about the RNLA, so I'd have two different tools to choose from. So if you had a choice, would you rather have a pair...

    RME Fireface 800 A/D converter??

I use one on a daily basis. While the built in preamps are merely "OK", the rest of the unit more than makes up for it. I HIGHLY recommend the Fireface 800. Packed with so many features it'll make your head spin. The included software tools are awesome too. Go for it!

Reccomend a pair of monitors for $500 or less

Blue Sky Media Desk. I first started using them to edit/mix audio for film and video. Bought a pair for mixing at home and they're great! Check out their Media Desk 2.1 system: http://www.abluesky.com/p_s_gb/p3s1.html They have a new product called the EXO series. If these are half as good...

    Cutting up audio?

Great info!!! The only thing I say is why not make a copy if you can? It wouldn't hurt to have back ups - ESPECIALLY if you save them on a separate drive. You guys are saving your cherished audio files to back ups, I hope!!!

    I need some sympathy!!!!!!!

Hey look, you only live once, right? Do you play those other two all the time? Treat yourself to it if it makes you happy. Those three guitars are TOTALLY different animals. I say you need a few different tools in your tool box.

    Shoot, here we go again...

Actually, although you don't like the way he said it- Supercreep is indeed giving you invaluable info. So try to look passed how people say things and try to understand what they are really saying. I totally agree with his point. Seriously, dig in and read all you can. That's the beauty of the...

    Ceiling Suspended Monitor Shelving

One disadvantage I can think of is that once they are up you really can't reposition them. So if you do go that route, make sure they are triangulated with your mix position. Unless you mix standing up, don't you think the monitors would sit too high above you?
