    AT4047, AT4050 or AT4060??

Yes I totally agree but it really boils down to the environment in which one records vocals.

Upgrading my monitors - what to get?

Blue Sky After you fix your room, check out the Blue Sky EXO 2.1 system. We've been using the Pro Desk and Media Desk in various studios and they are a great bang for the buck. The EXO is at a great price point and it allows you to dial in as much of the subs and mains as you need...

    AT4047, AT4050 or AT4060??

Well let's see, we have the 4047, which I think is a FET version. The 4050 is a multipattern. The 4060 is a tube version. Three different mics - all be would be a great addition to any mic locker. Which one is right for your voice? The only way to find out is to demo each. The 4060's tube...

    Stick Grip...

Depends on what your playing I tend to use different angles depending on what I'm playing. I'm self taught left-handed but I've been teaching myself to play right-handed. One thing I noticed right away is that I tend to use palm facing down for hi-hat but rotate to thumb up for the ride cymbal...

    Favorite piano action

I agree your best bet would be to buy the sound module you want, then hunt down a controller that feels right to you. You can always swap out or add sound modules in a rack, as well trigger sounds from your DAW. I have a first year Alesis QS-8 (1996) which came with a Fatar weighted...

    Pictures: Guitar Fetish Strat Clone

Your clone has a few features that closely resemble my Schecter PT. Especially the neck, headstock, and the straight edge at the jack. I wonder if they're from the same factory or something. http://www.schecterguitars.com/spec.asp?id=45

    You drummers remember Cozy Powell

Cozy had some great style! I learned a lot from him back in the day. Kill the King, The Wizard, etc.

A Sample Of The Studio Projects T3 Mic.

Harvey- tnx for this post. I enjoyed listening to both tracks- regardless of the equipment used. Definitely a good job when you can actually stop "critical" listening and just enjoy the track. I especially like the drums on the first track too! Awesome! The Studio Projects C1 ($199US) has been...

    Cleaning Out Your EARS

I've been told by roadies and tour managers to NEVER clean the wax from your ears (unless it gets really bad) -- the wax acts like a natural protection against prolonged exposure to loud music.

Snare solos..which rudiments are better for them?

Well really you use all of them, but my personal fav is the six stroke roll (inverted they call it a paradiddle-diddle). I'll also do combinations of singles and double strokes and use flams for accents.

    Drum replacement?

What editing program are you using? I use Cubase at home and I have a VST plug in that you use as an insert effect to trigger midi sounds. I forgot the name of the one I use but check this out: http://www.boxsounds.com/vst.html

    Loud, proud, and compressed...

I think it all boils down to harsh transients. Digital audio still has a hard time with that and I think if it starts as digital and ends as digital, you really have to know how to control those "harsh" transients without losing detail.

    megaphone effect

EQ and distortion. I would start with a bell curve on the EQ. You might already have a preset, something similar to a telephone - A low cut, a high cut, then boost the mids. Then add distortion, like something you would use on a heavily distorted guitar track. A stomp box like the Fuzz face...

    Cubase Shortcuts...

Shift+G is a pretty cool little macro. Places locators around the selected file, loops it and begins playback all in one little click.

    Drumming Independence

I'd say it's pretty professional to keep soloing while puking. Bonzo would be proud.

New Acoustic Song. How's The Mix?

Sweet recording Goodland! If I were being overly picky I'd say the guitar gets a bit boomy around 98-100 Hertz -- most noticeable on that second chord (low G? Just a guess). That's usually where critical mic placement gets tricky on acoustics. Aslo, I would take a tiny bit off the top end of...

Are the preamps doing the mics justice?

I think it's important to consider how many tracks you will be recording. If you are just recording one or two vocal tracks over a MIDI arrangement, then I think one or two "pro" channels should suffice. A few years back, recording with just Mackie pres worked fine until the tracks started...

    The perfect Mic.

I'm totally with you on this HL- you answered the question that was asked. I also agree that Nick asked the wrong question - once he "hears" what a reference mic gives him he'll be back to rephrase his question. BTW- it's neither, "Nor":D

    Let's Talk Les Pauls

Get an older one if you can I had time to play the '79 Les Paul last night. First time out of it's case in a few months (I've been WAY too busy). I'm still smiling today. Worth every penny. You'll see opinions that Gibson's are over priced and not worth the name. I used to feel that way too...
