Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

I wasn't looking forward to that, and to be honest that's the main reason I decided on the oil finish. I need alot more practice before I commit to any fancy finishes.

Oh yeah, and when I look at the images, I really think that the reflections seem to make the transitions look a little more extreme on the top than they look in person. Hard to say. Also, there is a 12" radius on the board and the board itself was 5/16" in the center, with just enough removed...

Thanks for the feedback everybody. This was my first carved top ever, and to be honest I just totally winged it. The top is 5/8 thick and the perimeter is a little over 1/4" thick. I don't know exactly how deep I went with the carve at the deepest point, but I'm thinking around .100" deeper...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

Yeah, I've got everything. I have a few different Seymour Duncans to choose from, I think I'm going to try my Screamin Demon and '59 first. I learned what I know about electronics from installing tons of pickups over the years, but I also learned alot from the book, "Build Your Own Electric...

Thanks, also for your response in the other thread. You are certainly right about the tools. I'm already planning to upgrade some of the tools I started with and I've hardly gotten any use out of them! Especially the big tools...I wish I had spent more up front, but you've gotta learn on...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

Yes, that is a bottle of Tru-Oil and I had just been smoothing out the finish from the third coat I had applied the night before. I sanded the guitar up to 1000 grit, and I was really happy with the way the oil went on. Might have been nice to go up to 2000 like Muttley suggested...I'll try...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

Yes, that is a scalloped cut out for the input jack. My plan was for it to plug in at an angle so that the cord could be naturally draped over the strap, which is the way I always do it...plus I thought it looked cool. :D

Other thread was getting heavy..:D Light, Muttley, anyone else who gives a damn, as I stated in the other thread I hope to pursue this and build many more guitars. This build will become more of a learning experience if it can generate some healthy criticism that I can consider in the future. I...

    Homebuilt guitar, almost finished

Everybody chill out. Sooner or later you learn that not everybody on an internet forum bothers to sugar coat what they have to say. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, and in fact I appreciate it. I'm familiar with Light from this forum, and I didn't take his post in a negative way...

Thanks and I will work on a post like that as soon as I have the time (trying to get some work done right now)

    Homebuilt guitar, almost finished

I'm open to any and all criticism, everything from "you shouldn't have done it that way", to "that is an ugly piece of shit". :D :D Seriously, I'd like to hear Light's comments. I know he knows what he's doing and I know that I don't. Same for Muttley and anyone else who is in the know. There...

    Homebuilt guitar, almost finished

I bought all the wood locally, dirt cheap actually. I couldn't get any mahogony big enough for the body so I laminated 2 large pieces with the 3 thin pieces down the center.

    Homebuilt guitar, almost finished

Thanks. I built the neck too. It's a deep set neck, you can see the tenon extending on up through the pickup holes. It actually extends on up past the bridge. It was very rewarding. I'll be building some another sometime soon I'm sure.

    Homebuilt guitar, almost finished

I started working on this guitar a few years ago, and I'm just getting around to finishing it up. (haven't been working on it that long - I just put it aside :D) I want to take it to a real luthier to have the frets levelled and crowned, and possibly slot the nut for me. (those are just a...

    Fast playing guitars....with 24 frets.

Everybody. But if you're looking for personal suggestions, I think that the USA built Jacksons are the best you can buy for that type of guitar.
