    Laptop PCMCIA FIREWIRE Problems. GRRRR

You can find out by going to control panel-->system-->hardware-->device manager-->display adapters It's likely integrated, espically if you don't know. Anyway, the idea is it could be causing a conflict, find out what kind of chip it is, and check the manufacturer's website for known...

Do You Use A Separate Hard Drive For Audio

Since it seems like there's some opinions floating around here on HD's, I have a related issue. I'm thinking about adding a nice usb 2.0 drive because I'm encountering some problems. Basically, the issue is that my audio playback stutters, even when playing CD's (using my firebox as the...

Could my HD be causing probs w/ firebox?

Ok, so I've been trying to figure out why my new firebox stutters while playing back audio. I thought it was the firewire chipset, but a different chipset still causes issues. So, I'm willing to take a look at it either being ram or the hard drive. I dl'd a disk speed checker, and here's my...

XP Pro Media Center Ed. with Firebox??

I don't use media center myself, but have had some other firebox issues, in which tech support said not to use win media center. I guess win xp pro or home is all they really support.

PCMCIA firewire options (firebox laptop users, please help!)

I bought an iogear pcmcia firewire card for my firebox, but apparently the NEC chipset it uses is known to cause problems with the firebox. I'm getting playback issues (songs play choppy), but it records fine. The choppiness makes overdubs impossible though, since it doesn't play back in...

Inspire 1394 dropping out, preferred settings?

check and see what chipset your firewire port uses. I'm having similar problems with a firebox (also presonus) and they said NEC chipsets cause problems. Try a TI chipset.

Computer specs - can I do this???

Well, avoiding whether ram increases track count etc... your recording program at the very least will require ram to run, just like any other program. As long as after the boot you still have enough free ram to run the program, if what Ford says is correct you should be fine. That said, I'd...

Firebox playback issues, and power cords...

So I got a firebox, and am having playback issues with it. It appears to record fine, but when I play back audio, either in cubase, or through foobar2000 it will pop and click. This seems to happen when I do anything on the computer, minimizing windows, changing tabs in firefox etc. Anyway...

My home recording studio ideas. Here's the scoop.

yeah, it sounds like you may as well stick with SE if its a real (non cracked) version. Frankly, it sounds like sx3 is more than you need, considering the setup you're planning on. a cracked sx3 is probably more trouble than its worth for you.

Studio monitors (bass, active, and around 400 a pair) what do you suggest?

i just picked up those krk rp8's as well. I went in for the rp5's, but was mildly underwhelmed (although they were great for the size and price imo). So I went for the rp8's. I can't say I know a lot about studio equipment, but I do know sound, and I've been listening to my CD's through them...

    inspire vs. firebox

I thought the fireboxes connected to each other through firewire, not spidf. What else might spdif be used for (other than using converters to plug in mics etc.) Edit: reread what cawhite said, and realized my other question was answered there. Thanks for the replys all =]

    inspire vs. firebox

rather than make yet another firebox/inspire thread, I'd figure I'd throw my question into this since I'm facing the same decision. I can get a firebox for around 230, but should be able to get an inspire equally cheap (prolly wouldn't be paying the 200 list). I was just wondering a few...

    Advice on new studio

Ok, after reading through this site, I've decided on gear for my first home studio. Tell me what you think, and any areas I might be going wrong. I'll probably be getting the inspire and rp5's tomarrow. Its based off my laptop which has 1 gig ram and Semperon 3000. Gear I'm getting- Presonus...

Hell yeah, a pair of RP8s for $300...

I read through some info about these moniters, and it seems like the main difference is just bass response (since rp8's have a larger woofer). Is this correct? I'm looking to pick up a pair, and am quite limited with a budget. Would I be making a big mistake going with the rp5's? My...

    Which add-on should I buy?

Thanks cawhite, I was looking on musiciansfriend and couldn't find those. That's exactly what I was hoping to find. So I've gotten everything pretty much figured out at this point. Getting the inspire, usb-midi cable, trying cubase, and getting 'pc recording for dummies'. I did have one...

    Which add-on should I buy?

the rambling helps quite a bit cawhite, much appreciated. I pretty much figured the firebox would be a bit better but I came to realize that its easy to keep saying "but *this* product is just $*** more". Next thing I know I'll end up with a $700 unit that far exceeds anything I need at the...

    Which add-on should I buy?

EDIT-- Ok, I've decided on the inspire. I'm very new to audio recording, and it appears to be plenty for my needs. So I only have two questions on it. First, it doesn't appear to support Pro Tools, can anyone confirm? (comes with cubase though, and considering i've never used either this is...
