    Questions about single coil noise

that doesn't mean it does nothing. there could be several reasons why it did nothing for you (and no offense, please) - could be that existing shielding was already adequate and so no perceived difference (noise still exists with shielding, just less of it) - could be that shielding wasn't...

    Questions about single coil noise

+1 on shielding, it helps. and please don't use studio recording as your gauge - when the guitarist is not playing the noise can be edited out by turning off the channel or pulling down the fader (or now by visually erasing the noise on the computer screen). and when the guitarist is playing...

    any ultra cheap bass recommendations

the problem with shopping used, especially pawnshops: 1. as was already mentioned - they usually have either crap or overpriced 2. places like Rondo will always have a better bass for less money, with return/exchange guarantee. for someone who has to ask for a recommendation it will be tough...

If you own the SCXD, you should RE-BIAS it (even stock tubes)! TONE!

thanks for the link, ocnor. i won't pretend i understood everything (and that's the problem - i don't have enough interest in electricity/electronics to put forth the effort to really grasp it, at least not yet). what I don't see there is how that translates to "tone" - when they talk about...

If you own the SCXD, you should RE-BIAS it (even stock tubes)! TONE!

I hear you and yes, just using a multimeter, per other instructions I found - measuring voltage at R20. I don't even have an understanding of this process, so it's not likely I'll go further into this. at least, not until i get a simple tube amp I could learn on (which could be never). All I...

    any ultra cheap bass recommendations

i would also vouch for the yammies - i had a Yamaha RBX-160 (plain P-pickup) in the 90's - very good value. The ones with P/J - imho the best config. yamaha is very consistent with their fretboards and 24 frets is nice. i originally bought it because of the unique shape, but now i've grown tired...

To see all models of SX just go to www.RondoMusic.com - ebay and amazon might not have all current models.

    any ultra cheap bass recommendations

Ninja, how old is your SX? I mean, your points are well-taken, but according to everything I read there's been a recent improvement in consistency and quality. It also seems that getting a sunburst will dispel suspicions of many different pieces glued together. all of their transparent guitars...

    any ultra cheap bass recommendations

the only things that can possibly need upgrading on SX instruments are hardware and pickups. Hardware, such as tuning keys and bridge, is very easy to replace on fender-type basses. Pickups are easy too. The resulting instrument beats current production stock MIM Fenders (pricewise and...

    any ultra cheap bass recommendations

actually, nothing "unacceptable" about SX basses - they are a fantastic value and a great quality. Here's my review: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5778550#post5778550 that particular bass looks and feels like a MIA fender and sounds pretty good and would take on a Fender with...

If you own the SCXD, you should RE-BIAS it (even stock tubes)! TONE!

everything I read about SCXD, everybody's response was that it comes too "cold" - I've even read engineer opinions that the way SCXD is designed it might not need a tube change for a LONG time. just sayin'. i've read about this and i'm sure this is a great point, especially for all-tube, fully...

If you own the SCXD, you should RE-BIAS it (even stock tubes)! TONE!

well, no problem and no apologies needed :) you're probably right and I didn't think of that, but I figured that those getting the SCXD are either new to tube amps or just getting into them or possibly already experienced, so they'd be familiar with this. It could go either way, really.

If you own the SCXD, you should RE-BIAS it (even stock tubes)! TONE!

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or wondering about those words for real, so :) actually, the first 2 words have a more technical explanation: "more complex" probably refers to harmonic content - more harmonics means a richer tone. "bloom" (i think) refers to natural tube compression...

Interesting argument for the difference between cheap & non-cheap guitars...

that can happen, but "bye bye" is rather rash, no? a new slip-stone or graphite (or bone or whatever) nut costs about $40 or $50 - or even filing out the grooves on the stock nut. I put a bigsby on a guitar and there were tuning issues despite a roller bridge and locking tuners - new slip stone...

If you own the SCXD, you should RE-BIAS it (even stock tubes)! TONE!

I knew this for a while, but being a "non-tech" hesitated to even open it up, until yesterday. Turned out to be VERY easy, actually (BUT BE ADVISED: THERE ARE VOLTAGES INSIDE THAT CAN KILL YOU, but you don't need to touch those parts to re-bias). Of course, all this I read somewhere else - not...

Interesting argument for the difference between cheap & non-cheap guitars...

any blind tests should be done with the same or at least "same class" pickups, otherwise you'd be just comparing pickups, not very fair. epiphone, as well as Rondo music's brands offer many VERY good guitars (even if you have to go through several sometimes, as muttley said), but some of those...

Interesting argument for the difference between cheap & non-cheap guitars...

i can't help but disagree :) i bought my Brownsville GG1 guitar for roughly $179. It's a variation on the les paul theme - mahogany neck/body with maple cap, set neck. After I installed my GFS Dream 180 pickups - even with a lot of distortion I can fret full major and even minor chords (all 6...

    Is this a joke?

personally i'd say the price is a joke (even if it's serious). that and the fact that EVH's guitar wasn't a fender, if i read correctly. other than that, the point of a replica would be being exact. i'm not one to want copies of people's guitars, but if i was, i'd want an exact copy, that's the...
