What makes a good recording room ?

The same as above. Build up frequencies in the low mid that you will have to eq out in the mix. AS for reverb... well it depends. If the room sounds nice, it could be nice for drums. Otherwise, as dead as possible ( knowing that you ll add it back in the mix with a plugin)

    New to home recording...

Trial and Error Trial and Error Trial and Error Trial and Error. There are a lot of useful resources on stickies and other forums. First piece of advice, do not record with your microhpone facing a wall (and to close to this wall). It will introduce combfiltering. Do not record too close from...

    Nasal vox recording remedies?

First of all, I think you should keep doing what you are doing. There is so much more soul when everything is recorded at the same time. You should check this video. The same problem occurs. The guitar player has a nasal sound because he is bunched over. It looks like it is fixable with EQs...

    EQing guitars?

moving the mic is the first thing you should do. It has a considerable impact on the tone of your recording. +/- ambience +/- mud +/- harshness Anyone who claims the opposite is tone deaf. Even on an amp cone, giving the mic an angle or moving in 2inches to the side would give it a total...

    Discouraged From Recording

We ve all been through this phase. There is a cure though! As far as i am concerned, what helped me the most is to develop my critical listening skill. This involves being able to lay back on the couch, take a listen to what you just recorded and HONESTLY ask yourself do I like OR not? If not...

Do I really need a preamp?

IMHO opinion, the answer is yes. In general you need a preamp to boost the signal to line level when recording a guitar or a microphone. This being said, I record my guitars directly with a pod xt... and it sounds ok. The UA stuff will definitely give you more warmth, and/or compression and eq...

Only 8 mic pre's, some ideas on recording full bands + drums please

you most definitely need the kick and the top snare. Not sure about the hihat though... Try to get a blanced tone out of the overhead. EVERYTHING should be captures by the overheads AND balanced. this means to cymbals that behead you on the drummers hits them. This will give a good balance tune...
