    16 track reel to reels..

Hi Hot Rocks, I remember back in 1990 when I started with a tascam 4 track cassette unit (424). There certainly was a major difference from the jump to the 1/4 Fostex. The jump to the MS16 was minor in quality, except for the added tracks. One great advantage you have is the punch in foot...

    16 track reel to reels..

Hi Hot Rocks, I can't speak for the Tascam 388, but I did own a Fostex 1/4, 8 track prior to this 16 track MS16. I loved the Fostex 1/4; it is a great sounding machine. I was going to do a commercial album with it untill a great deal came along on the 16 track. There is a little more...

    Neumann M147 Large condensor tube

I use a M147 Neumann tube mic on all my acoustic work. I love the sound; It was a big penny too - two grand! With the right placement and room, it is warm, warm, warm. Some say it sounds like digital clarity with the warmth of analog. Well, I must confess I use a Tascam 16 track one inch...

    16 track reel to reels..

I have a 16 track Tascam 1" unit and love every minute. You can get a 1/2" unit in the semi-pro catagory, but the 1" is a pro unit. They have VU meters on each track and XLR in and out. A roll around unit so you can be many miles from the deck. I go through pre amps to record, never...

Olson guitars - James Taylor's pick If you have the bucks, and some waiting patients, buy what James Taylor plays - "Olson". I don't think he will play anything else. He uses a Pendulium pre and goes straight to the house. Olson's are hand made at $5500.00 each and the wait is about 18...

    499 tape

I'm using 499 tape on my MS-16 Tascam unit. 456 is recommended for the machine, but I'm really having great results. Anybody have any thoughts about the difference in 499 & 456 ? Any pros or cons ? How about bias settings ? reeling and rocking, Chuck

    16 track reel to reels..

reply to "Thread still going" Hi Spider, Yes, the thread is still weaving thoughts. I'm curious, does analog have more difficulty than digital when punching in ? I have a buddy that has always loved his 32 ADAT tracks. Recently, he heard the analog world in action. He went out and bought...

    16 track reel to reels..

Reply to FOSTEX 1/4" reel to reel Hi gjhardwick, I couldn't agree with you more. I had a fostex 1/4" unit until recently. I moved up from 8 to 16 tracks. The quality difference is minor, even though the tracks are twice the size. You have a great unit there, and it can stand up to the big boy...

    Fostex A-8 equalization standard.

The studio I bought my tascam from used 499 claiming it had a lower noise floor. I use it and love it. My manual has bias adjustment instructions for the MS16 one inch unit, but taht may not help you ? Chuck

    MP3s playback quality

Reply to Regbro Hi Regebro, I will keep these things in mind. Yes Musicmatch has met it's match. I'm frustrated with the whole thing. We put quality into our recordings, then the upload technology flushes it down the tubes. Maybe it will all get better into the future. Chuck

    MP3s playback quality

Reply to Regbro - AHA! Hi Regebro, This whole problem just recently developed. I used to upload commerical songs with no problem. The quality was the pits, but at least they did upload. Now I just get kicked out while uploading. "Server can't be found" is the message coming back. by the...

    MP3s playback quality

reply to regebro Hi Regebro, I record the CD from CD-ROM through the Musicmatch to my hard drive. It is supposed to do the the fancy dancing stuff like ripping and coding to prepare the the file for upload. Then when I log onto my mp3.com. I click there to upload a song. It gives me a box...

    MP3s playback quality

Reply to sonusman Hi Sonuman, I'm afraid I can't speak on your technical level when it comes to MP3 uploads. I simply put a CD in the CD-ROM drive, record to the musicmatch jukebox, and then upload to mp3 from my hard drive. Sometimes it uploads, but most times it just spits me out with...

Reply tp sonusman Hi Sonusman, Thank you for the lengthy feedback on MP3 quality. Some of the things you mentioned are comprehendable to me, but I'm not that technical yet with this stuff. Anyhow, I'll try to share what I do know in reference to your information. I put my CD in my CD-ROM...
