Thanks for the replies. So far the only advice that I have gotten on any home recording site was basically: "just try stuff out and see what works best for you", which is awesome. And I do appreciate it. But I am looking to spend something less than $48,000 in american dollars.

After many hours of fiddling with it I recorded ten seconds of me saying hello. But I'm not sure exactly what I did. Now when I try to record something, I get a 'no asio driver' message. Thanks again for all the helpful and friendly advice. rhone

Apparently it is because there are no drivers for the 64 bit version of vista. Thanks.

I was just given a Multimix 8 but I can't get windows vista to recognize it. Every time I click on the alesis control panel I get a pop up that says: Can't open the driver for your mixer. Make sure the mixer is on and connected to your PC. Any help would be much appreciated.
