No, no, no! If you read the first post again, you're supposed to actually hit the skins with the mics! Here's the first post again: PS. LMAO at this fist post. Haven't read it in a while. Len???? AHAHAHAHA

A new way to mic drums

THAT is what I call close micing!!! well, it actually sounds decent. Are you sure you didn't use any other mics than the kick & two sticks...? And, ya, were you actually hitting the skins with the mics?

    Nirvana drum sound

Burn! But seriously, you gotta hit HARD. Have you seen Dave Grohl play? And yes, it must be In Utero that he's talking about. Steve Albini, ladies and gentlemen... (er, just gentlemen. Are there any ladies on here? Ever?)

Working Hard & Wanting some ideas!

On the first track, the doubled guitar track is not very accurately done, and this is distracting since they are nearly the same. I'd say either double it exactly the same, or just have one stereo guitar track. Also, the production is sort of in the akward intermediate space between "sparse" and...

    60's Drums?

You probably want no compression and more emphasis on room mics and OHs than on close mics. Other than that I'd say record live and loose.

    Dirty

Is the playing precise? Rhythmic innacuracy can definitely sound gritty and dirty, even if the recording is completely clean. If this isn't the case, I'd look at the sound of the instruments and the room sound.

Mixed from Korg to Fostex MR8 - a test of a jam - "Quick Jam 69"

Good stuff man! I like it. It has a nice loose groove and is much more inspired than a lot of other stuff on here. Well, actually I like the "slow-rock test of new gear" best. It sounds like Brian Jonestown Massacre.

    Studio Projects C1

It is good to have the octaves in perfect tune. But when you are tuning guitar using harmonics you tend to try and get the harmonics into perfect tune rather than the octaves. That is, you try and get the fifth of the higher string in perfect tune with the lower string in order to get a fourth...

    great idea, bad result

At Science World in Vancouver they have something like this, where you have two dishes about 15 m apart facing one another. You can talk in one and the person at the other can hear you amazingly well.

4 mics for drums: What to do?

Yeah, unless you wanna bust your condenser. Lots of air is moved by a kick drum. I'd try the C1 like maybe 15-20 feet away out front.

4 mics for drums: What to do?

I'd say, just as a thought, try using a 57 as an OH and use the C1 as a room mic to get more of the warehouse sound. Most people say not to use 57s as OHs, but there was one dude on here a while back who did, and it sounded fine. Then use the 58 on the kick, as it has a better low-end response...

A new way to mic drums

Yes, in order for this technique to work, you must get really blunted.

Probably just nerves or something. A simple solution: get him drunk.
