Could use mix feedback (Original Song)

Cool song! I really like that guitar line behind the vocal. It's weird, in a really good way. The whole thing is kind of dense. I agree with JDOD that it needs more separation. I also think the vocal could be louder. This song would work really well with an intimate, up front, dry-ish vocal.

Cha La Head Cha La - Glam rock ft. VHS and Greg_L

I'm a bit late here, and I know this has been said a lot already, but what really sticks out to me is the timing. It sounds like either the drums can't quite hang, or the guitars are rushing (I think it's the latter). Or maybe the drums are sitting right on the beat and should be a little ahead...

Tall Order with easlern and ibleedburgundy

Nice song. The guitars in some ways make me think of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The sound on those is great. For me, the vocals and drums are just a hair too dry. Not by much, just a barely perceptible hair. They just sound like they're separate from the guitars. The bass could maybe be a...

Blocking out a Freeway - instrumental

It has a really nice sound overall, a bit Floyd-ish in parts. The only thing I would say is that the drums are kind of dull, boxed in. Being that it's a rough mix, I'm sure you'll get to that. I like the scary little swell at the very end, the strings or synth or whatever that is. Nice way to...

    Dirty Games

I'm dying to get my monitors back and work on this stuff, and listen to more posts of other songs. I'll probably have an updated mix by the end of the weekend. As usual, the comments here are invaluable.

    The Bends - remix

Thanks Bubba! I've always loved this song. It was probably my favorite song to play with a band, with I Want You (She's So Heavy) a close second (which I also have a cover of, though I'm hesitant to post it because it's eight minutes). My interpretation of this song has never been what Thom...

    Dirty Games

Thanks guys! I will work on all of that. As far as brittleness, I thought I had that taken care of. Maybe the way it was before just dulled my senses. It was ear-piercingly brittle at first, at least the guitar solo was. I'll take another look at it when I get my monitors set back up.

    Dirty Games

Thank you! The reason the acoustic volume drops after the intro is because of the limiter on the master. I squeezed the whole thing to make it fatter, and bring up the intro. Before that, the acoustics were weak in the beginning. Now they sound kind of weak AFTER the intro, by comparison. I'm...

    Dirty Games

This one needs something to thicken it up a little on the riff section that comes in with the drums and repeats several times throughout the song, but I'm not sure what. Maybe just another overdriven guitar with more high end doubling the riff, or maybe a synth or other keyboard part playing...

    Baby Britain

Yes. It definitely sounds better. The drums COULD still be more prominent, but they don't have to be. More a matter of taste than anything else, I think.

    The Bends - remix

Okay, I did some work on the vocal, and a couple of other things. I updated the OP. I think this sounds better, but I'm at that point where I need to stop for the day. My ears are done.

    The Bends - remix

Thanks! Yeah, I've been back and forth with the reverb on the vocal. I made a couple of slight changes a couple of hours ago, which I just put in the OP. I brought up the vocal reverb a tiny bit, and brought up the bass drum a little. I'm thinking you may be right about the low mids in the...

New Old Song; "Game Over" - alternative rock/indie.

I hate to not have any criticism, as that makes for a fairly useless comment, but I can't think of any right now. Based on the first mix you posted, I would have said more clarity, but to my ears you fixed that in the new mix. I like your vocals better than the original. They move me more. This...

    Baby Britain

I like this. Your vocal is nice. It has too much reverb, I think, and I'm guessing that's because you're insecure about it based on what you've said. You shouldn't be. Besides the fact that the original is more up front, the way you sing this would also sound better with a more intimate sound...

Music to Murder - Falling Over

Hmm. You've got me really thinking about this. First off, yes, I think it can be bigger and meatier while still sounding natural. I think maybe more natural is actually what I'm wanting to hear in this. It sounds a little too smooth, overall. I want to hear the growl of the guitars. I think the...

Music to Murder - Falling Over

Very cool song. I think it needs to be beefier, overall. The production doesn't seem to match the badass attitude of the song. I'm not as good at pinpointing things as some of these other guys, but that's my vague take on it. I really dig the song, and the performance. The sound just needs to be...

    The Bends - remix

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1q3bgtkYyakLVdXQWFneGltaEE This may still need some fine-tuning (which of course is why I'm reposting it for critique), but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. I changed the drum sample set to a better one that accurately reflects the way I played the...

    The Bends - cover

That does sound like a process. I have to start with enough scratch tracks in Reason to play the drums to (usually a guitar played to a click track, or maybe if I started with a drum loop I'll have more tracks to play to), play the drums, then export each drum as audio and import them into...

Last One In The Room - alternative mix

Yes, I think the cymbals are better in the .wav. Less swishy, more in their place. I might have to try out some of those amp plugins. Might sound better than running the Line 6 into a preamp. I'm still not getting what I want for a heavy guitar mix, and yours sounds great.

Last One In The Room - alternative mix

Okay, I'm back home, and while I can't listen on my monitors this late, I am using my good headphones. I love the sound of this track when all the instruments are in. It's got that heavy yet smooth sound that I'm trying to achieve on The Bends but have no idea how. There is something just...
