    Remix of Prior Song

The sound of the guitar is half of what makes that line so cool to me.

To Ramona - live tracking of vocals and acoustic

Thanks, I'll have to try that. It'll take a good bit of engineering on my part to figure out how to do that without anything touching the mic or me knocking anything over, but I'll figure something out. I have hung blankets from a separate mic stand over the Avantone for vocals before, but using...

    Remix of Prior Song

Makes sense. Maybe you could just hint at it in the first verse. Like play a few notes at the beginning of the first line, and stop and have it echo away. Then you don't hear it again until the lift later. OR you could just leave it the way it is. It's great now.

    Remix of Prior Song

Hmm. Well, I'd try to put it there, just lower, maybe more distant sounding than it will be later. The intimacy of the vocals on that first verse is nice, so don't ruin it, but I would try to make that guitar line work there if possible. I really think it's a good hook, and why not hook them in...

Llano del Rio - Acoustic country from an inveterate punk.

The mix is really good. Personally, I'd like to hear a little bit of grit of some kind. I hate to be so vague, but I don't know exactly what it is my ear wants to hear. It just all sounds so smooth and pristine, and I'm wanting to hear it a little rougher. But I'm not sure how. Keep in mind that...

To Ramona - live tracking of vocals and acoustic

So I'm currently in a temporary living situation where I don't have my drums or keyboard, which means I can't get started on any of the new recordings I've got in mind. I've really needed to do something other than tweak the songs I've posted here (which were recorded months ago), so I decided...

    Remix of Prior Song

Sounds really good, I like the new backing vocals. I'm missing the sliding guitar line behind the vocals, though. If I remember correctly, it used to happen earlier in the song, and it was less subdued. I liked it that way. For me personally that was what hooked me in. That little moment when my...

i'm so lonesome i could cry

This sounds great! To me it has the feel and sound of a 60's recording with the "oomph" of a modern recording. Your vocals are perfect.

    cold, cold ground

I feel you on doing it how you like it, how you feel it should be. I have songs that, even if I were a rock star who could put out whatever I wanted and sell lots of copies, they still wouldn't be radio songs. I have one song from years ago (which I'll re-record at some point with my new setup...

    cold, cold ground

Holy shit this is a cool song. The long outro would be better with a less subtle vocal buildup toward the end. Yes, the bass does a lot of different things, but there still needs to be more than that changing or building toward something if you want to keep the attention of most people. Don't...

    No Choice

I really enjoyed that. The vocals are buried. I love the guitar on the right. The drums are too - I don't know, square I guess. They sound too perfect. Really cool song, and it's not too short. It's the perfect length, there's nothing missing. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to tell the...

    Like Spinning Plates

I haven't settled on one way of doing anything. I'm always trying different things. I do always use a UA preamp plugin when tracking anything from a microphone. Either the 610 that came with the interface, or a Neve 1073. Everything I've posted was tracked with the 610. Now I also put a Studer...

Thanks! I'm trying to remember what was on that vocal without opening everything up. I've redone it now, with less plugins. But the one you're asking about I think had both a Fairchild 670 and a 1176 compressor (overkill, which has been remedied), Waves De-Breath, a noise gate, and an EMT 140...

    Like Spinning Plates

Thanks. Nothing needs to be rerecorded, as all but the vocals are MIDI instruments. Just needs to be remixed. The piano is a very realistic-sounding vintage jazz piano, with a synth-ish sound underneath it, designed to sound as if it were vibrating off the strings of the piano. It's supposed to...

    The Bends - remix

Thanks man. It's a Radiohead song. No harmonies in this one. I'm holding off on originals for a little while so I can learn on covers instead of putting my originals through the grinder for months at a time. Not easy to do, because I have a lot of originals I'm dying to lay down. Guitars are the...

I thought it might be something like that.

    Starlight - alternative rock track

I got nothing. This sounds great. I'm striving for something very much like what you do. Full, in every way, and smooth and clear. I really like this sound.

    Acoustic Tom Petty-inspired

I like this sound. Clean smooth acoustic, warm deep sound overall. I agree about a compressor on the bass. I like the strong low end, it just needs to be more consistent dynamically.

    The Bends - remix

Thanks man! For some reason it wouldn't let me edit the OP. The button wasn't there. Just on that thread.

    The Bends - remix

It does! I had to keep myself from singing along so I could hear it. I love that song. Okay, I just tried out Debaser. First of all, GREAT job on that. You got that song down to a tee. I'll be able to do it. Just have to carve out a good time when I'm alone, and get in a frame of mind to yell...
