clicky kick drum to zeke: do you have/know dream theaters "images and words" - that´s one kick drum for (or from) the trash can!! obviously triggered and without any dynamics (sounds like 1 single sample) - just plain awful! can´t listen to it - basta! fretless

anyone a fan of bob rocks work??

imho bob rock´s real masterpiece is motley crues "motley crue" (the one with john corabi) - i like this sound! i don´t dig the sound on metallicas "black album" that much - in some way i find it overproduced, it sounds very hifi - and i also definitely don´t like the kick drum there! fretless

Post a picture of your rack! :o

the black thing on the bottom ... ... is an 8 way power distributor with seperate switches for each device - it´s for the rack units that don´t have a power switch like the dbx compressors. i don´t like to leave everything powered on all the time - i just like to run what really gets used...

    Roland SRV 3030

hi! i cannot comment on the mpx 500 (550) or the tc m-one, but i have two srv 3030´s - one in my studio and one in my mobile recording rig. imho for the price (250 to 300 euros) the quality is top notch! and you can choose for yourself how deep you go into editing reverb patches - and that is...

    converters damaged beyond repair?

maybe someone can help me with this one: there´s a fostex vc8 adat converter box on ebay for cheap - it´s damaged/not functional because of usage with the wrong power supply! would you think it to be damaged beyond repair? or would you think that this just has to be some "minor" problem which...

what is a good patch bay for $100-150?

whatever you choose, keep in mind that it might not always be the best idea to patch microphones via a patchbay - especially if phantom power is to be used. of course that depends on the grounding scheme of the bay ... fretless

    question for Tom Cram

i just surfed www.dbxpro.com where under products the dbx 266xl is stated as "Designed and manufactured in the USA" ... i took a look at the back of my 266xl where i can read "Made in China"! for my dbx 166a the "Made in USA" is correctly stated. what´s that? a typo? fretless

    dbx 166a vs dbx 160a

i own 4 compressors by now: drawmer mx30 dbx 166a dbx 266xl fostex 3070 for compressing bass i tend to use the 166a which quite satisfies me, but just not entirely ... however it´s a lot better than the 266xl (there´s a very audible ticking this machine does when compression is...

Crappy sound on my bass. Why?

i guess you should try a direct injection box (DI) to match impedances between your bass and your mixer which results in a much cleaner and fuller sound. i don´t know where you live but palmer do some good value for money stuff over here - take a look...

theory: a good preamp makes compression dispensable ...!?

i think you misunderstood me there - i got a sound t r a c s m series board (32/8/2) it´s more of a live console than a studio one, but WTF ;-) ... there´s a picture of a mr series board which is quite similar to mine (m series has metering only on groups/auxes) - take a look under soundtracs...

theory: a good preamp makes compression dispensable ...!?

i´m thinking about what could be called perceived presence, punch, directness and all that stuff. doesn´t a good preamp act a little as a compressor himself even if there isn´t one built in discretely? what do you think? if yes, where do you think those good preamps start price-wise? another...

sorry, here´s the right one: low freq. panel absorber questions ... john? :-)

hi there! since the building of my studio has been delayed and i need to at least mix some stuff i moved the main part of my gear into a rather small room in our house. it´s 3,35 metres deep, 2,40 metres wide (at least on one end - on the other it´s just 2 metres!) and also 2,40 metres high...

    TEAC PB-64 as S/PDIF Patchbay?

hi! does anybody know if the teac pb-64 rca patchbay can be used for patching s/pdif signals safely if used with proper cables? i don´t know for sure, but i could be dealing with this issue which should be called something like wave resistance (this is just a translation from the german word)...

a compressor that won't let my signals clip.

by the way, the mx30 is a 2 channel beast and you even get quite good gates thrown in! take a look: http://www.drawmer.com/mx30.htm fretless

a compressor that won't let my signals clip.

what about a comp with a discrete limiter built in? i have the drawmer mx30 and i love it - should be somewhere about or even under 360 euros ... it handles dynamics very well - i know, that´s what it should, but so promise many cheaper comps which aren´t quite up to it! and the limiter works...

    self-made midi cables

the job´s paying o.k. and for now i need more than two hands to count my midi devices, but my girlfriend and i - we´ll soon be moving into a house we just bought (or our bank - depends on how you see it ;-)) ... so in the end you could always say our jobs should pay better, yes! ;-) thanks for...

    self-made midi cables

i wonder if some of the bbs members solder their midi cables themselves? since i´m doing so with my audio cabling and my midi-capable gear gets more over time this starts me thinking ... and i could decide myself exactly how long a cable should be!! i know there´s a metal din-plug from neutrik...
