currently i run a AMD duron 1.2ghz with 512mb ddr ram, i can run about 16 tracks with compressors and eq, less when i run complex impulse reverbs (sir - soo good for a free vst).
I have a maudio delta 44 which it 4 inputs but is a pci card. If you dont mind installing it, then i fully reccomend...
haha this is wierd i was listening to shadows collide with people when i saw this!
I dont think he is technically the best guitarist ever but he knows whats neccesary for a song rather than demanding a 5min solo.
I currently recording a solo artist who's style is quite similar to john...
Heres my situation: i am recording my friends band, the vocals bass and guitars sound great recorded but my drum recording lets me down. I have a delta 44 but have only two channels of budget preamps (audiobuddy) meaing im limited when recording the drums.
I have found a music store that rents...
to me its being unique, while still retaining a sense of what lyrics should be.
My example is mike skinner (the streets) on original pirate material, you listen to his lyrics and your told a story, and i alwasy think "why didnt i think of that"
it seems like your not creating new tracks to record on.
Record one part, add a new track set it to record and make the sure the first isnt then record
im not completely hating reason, its great fun :D
See what you get from it, play with the settings DONT go straight to the presets. I cant wait to hear the mock album..
Welcome to the board :D (i forgot that before!)

I would get a presonus firebox $300
Then a set of monitor speakers such as KRK Rokit5's $300
then spend about $100-150 on building fibreglass panels to help the acoustics in your room a bit
And then finally audition some microphones with your remaning $250/300.
If u buy these...
i just find it fairly limited, goood for cheesy house music :p but not really release quality. I just think the money would be better spent on a good sounding piano soft synth.

A bit of it may be irrelevant but mostly its all good stuff :)

I would then reccomend trying out some condensor microphones to see which suit your voice and get...
no, without a power supply a condensor cannot work. Most require phantom power, but you could try a tube mic with your setup because they come with seperate power supplies
the rokits are sold singly so people can use them in surround sound situations. I have a pair of the rp5 and i am very impressed with them. Your best option is to go to guitar center or somewhere like that and try them out with one of your cds. See if you can find detail in the cd that you...

2 behringer c-2's in xy as overheads (would have been spaced if i had another mic stand :P) running through an audiobuddy and a random £15 dynamic stuck on the non beater side of the kick runnign through a Kustom 10W...
You wont be able to soundproof without building. You should look into acoustically treating the room so it sounds good and then recording when its quiet
i think it might be a case of this is equipment readily available to them, although it may be owned by other studios. I know the studio i help at sometimes lends equipment to other studios.
I would go for it though, although im not a big fan you cant knock the sound quality of Limp Bizkits CD's...
erm the drums i would eq to a am radio type sound, then through one of those guitar amp simulators (the jcm900 is pretty good) the stick loads of reverb on it
