    Need honest, brutal criticism

I think the dark sound suited the song. Reminded me of the sound on Black Sabbath Vol 4. Something odd with the compression. There seemed t be absolutely no decay, in fact almost the opposite, like the level stayed the same and then went up. Don't know if this was the compression on the guitars...

The kick drum doesn't seem to have much bass frequency, and there doesn't seem to be a bass instrument, as in rock you would have bass guitar, here you need a synth bass.

    Cheeky Reqest

Thanks RayC. It's an old song I'm using to practice drumming, recording and mixing. I wasn't really expecting people to think it was a good song, so thanks very much for that. I'm wanting to move on to something new really but if I manage to get a set of WAVs out of my VS I would like to take...

    Attempt at fixing a mix

Thank for your thoughts. I'll probably not change the structure or tracking much, it's another song I wrote when I was 16 (I've embelished it since) that I've ressurected and rerecorded to practice my drum playing, recording and mixing with. I had no idea what I was going to do for a bass solo...

    Attempt at fixing a mix

I've just spent an afternoon in the shed adding some compression and eq and stuff to the drums, did a rough mix and came away thinking the drums sounded miles better. Did a comparison to my earleir version and can't tell any difference, if anything, probably sounds worse , although you...

I willmoore - Not an expert here, drum sound is something I'm working on at the moment. If my headphones are not decieving me they sound dull, as in top end missing. When the experts get to this they'll likely ask how you recorded it, and I'm curious as well.

    Attempt at fixing a mix

Thanks K-dub, I think to fix this I need to go back and remix, although some of the problems might have been made when tracking, so might not be fixable.

California King Bed Cover - Kritik my Mix

Yes very nice voice. Personally I prefered the instrumentation spread wide. I know what you mean by commercial recordings, a lot of stuff these days is almost mono. Often that's because often it'll be listened to on radios with a single speaker and stereo mixes don't always translate well. This...

Kev and his big ass horn section ...

Probably not the sort of music I would listen to, but catchy and well executed. The distorted guitars were too thin and the back vocals were too loud. Generally I felt the instruments could have been brought up, the vocals and drums were very up front. It's hard to simulate that brass sound, but...

Agree with Crysiq, you need some bass in there, as in instrumentation and the kick. Vocals are good, sounded a little restrained in places, but I don't know if that's as intended.

New Song - Lost In Texas

Great to relax to on the porch, feet up, the sun going down, beer in hand, or maybe a Jim Beam. I like growely basses, but I think not for this track, but like you say that'll be easy to fix with some different EQ. I noticed the snare seemed over to the right. Not really a problem, just an...

    No Leaf Clover Vocal Cover

    Nice singing.

    Flesh and Blood

This is a lot better. Everything seems better defined and the bass isn't turning my brain to jelly in my headphones:listeningmusic:. I like, I like.

What do u Think? (2 songs)

Some nice atmospheric sounds, and I like the arpeggios. I'd be interested to hear it with some more reverb or maybe delay on the vocals and maybe with the vocals a little lower, not because the vocals are too up front but just to bring up the power of the music. Some nice catchy vocal hooks.

    jazz-pop mix advice?

The singer has a very nice voice. I refered to Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne on another post, she often had a lot of reverb and I liked that. I think it suits this girls voice. The drums sound very distant and there are some timing issues (I'm learning drums so I know how hard it is). I like...

    Listen To Your Heart

Your vocals are very good. The keyboard sound is not to my taste, but then... that's just my taste. A very well constructed song, quite moving, especially when I read the story behind it. My wife always says I sound write something romantic, but I'm no good at the sort of things. You're wife is...

    Attempt at fixing a mix

From feedback from my last track (Cheeky request post) and listening to a lot of stuff here I realised that my other mixes where muddy and the drums boxy. I've add some EQ to my track on my last post (appreciated if you could take a listen) and have played about with EQ on this other mix and...

    progressive shred metal tune

Would that be a 'craptop'? When the guitars come in at 1:00 I'd have prefered them to come in with more volume rather than fade in. Liked the lead , melody guitars. Vocals need to come up. The vocals sounded like they weren't loud, as in a bit like when some one is telling a story and sort of...
