Help required: Why tape saturation sounds good

my lo-fi mix So here's my last mix. Hypno House I did a little eq and normalization in sound forge before uploading the mp3 so here it is. Perhaps someone can tell me why when I record with the left and right channel vu's spot on 0 db during the playback the right channel is going into the...

Help required: Why tape saturation sounds good

Woawww I MISS this forum and it's great to be back! I haven't bought that new TASCAM 34B yet. Cjacek, I saw your post on the tape head hours, did you buy one? Well, I've been to busy collecting records that cost too much money so I haven't been able to make the big move yet. I did just record...

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

Word Up I hate computers. nuff said. What kind of gloves work best for the job, Ghost? surgical? I couldn't find the photo of just the head. Will the B34 have a sufficient splicing block and will it be cool with a manual cue? T

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

who's scared? I'm plannin on mostly editing by re-arranging the songs. There are a ton of classics that may have an annoying or outdated vocal, a cheesy string or two, or just the entire song that needs to be edited out save the break. And basically extending the best parts, so yeah I'm...

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

ha ha I'm goin to be focusing mostly on editing/splicing a lot of forgotten classics and I was thinking I might as well leave room to overdub just in case.

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

dammit Dont laugh as I know not what I speak... Im gonna be recording off of records but I assumed that the entire signal either from my mixer or amp would be summed directly into just one track of the tape, which would have allowed me to dub on the other one. BUGGLES! So what I really need...

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

change of mind All the 1/2" ones I've seen are horizontal and much bigger, the 1/4" are vertical and much more compact so it's def more practical to my needs. But if the 34B is a four track then each track only gets 1/16" on the tape? I'd much rather have a two track so each gets 1/8" I...

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

I dunno Is there anything available new for a 2 track 1/2" 15 ips with the sync option then? ? ? and how much are we talking about really? If its not made anymore then how about a vintage? I'm getting dizzy googlin up all these damn recorders only to find links back to this forum :D

TASCAM 34B is still being made (must read)

The only way for me to know is to AB the two but without that privilege and to avoid possible upgrading later Id rather just go for it all initially.

bear with me I thought I read on this board that a 1/2" 15 ips 2 track stereo would provide higher fidelity than a 1/4" 7 1/2 ips 2 track stereo. Is this not true? I'd be interested in the overdubbing as well because I'm looking to not just record but to cut up edits as well.
