Mid to High end Preamp Recommendations

I can't speak for the other company, but I've been using the 7th Circle stuff for a few years and loving it. I have 2xNeve, 2xAPI, and 2xT15 and they are pretty much all I use. I also have a GAP that I use regularly too. The 7th circle stuff is stellar and very easy to build. In fact, that...

who said 5w was quiet? 5w is still loud, but you can get some breakup at LOWER volumes than bigger wattage amps. When you're in an apartment the only options are 1) ampsims, 2) clean amp with pedals for OD, and 3) piss off neighbors.

The rebel 20 was one of those amps i had to mess with a lot to get a sound i really liked, but once i did i liked it a lot. But, you're right, some folks really like one thing while others don't get too inspired...i don't like any Humbuckers (so sue me), shh don't tell jimmy page.

oh yeah, those egnators are nice. i've never used the tweaker, but i've used the rebel 20(?) and it sounds really really nice.

haha, i knew an answer like that was coming. I'll use ugly stuff, but it would be cool if they put a little more thought into the way it looks, that's all. If it were a question between function and looks, I'll take function every day.

How does this make you feel?

Hmm i didn't know that you could download them. I just know the soundcloud player most people use is not great.

So is that 4 toggles, 4 pots?

How does this make you feel?

soundcloud compresses the file too. I'm not sure what's going on, but soundcloud always sounds bad to me so I just use dropbox.

My only complaint with focusrite is their stuff is so ugly and/or boring. I use a saffire 40 as my interface and it's just boring.

Can you solder? or do you know someone who can teach you (it's super easy)? Seventh Circle Audio has an API and a Neve clone that are AMAZING. For around less than $1700 I built 2xAPI, 2xNEVE, and 2xSome other simple transformerless system, and 1xchasis (with slots left for 2 more preamps)...

well, if you do release a maz 18 I will buy it first day! Pair it with a nice 2x12 celestian blue cab, or a nice 2x10 cab and I'll be in recording heaven. And if you need a beta tester i'm just a PM away!

How does this make you feel?

I like the minimalist approach. I think it's great for beginners (and some advanced engineers as well). It forces us to focus on the art of recording rather than the technology. I have a couple of good friends who are well established professional engineers. You'd be amazed at the equipment...

don't misunderstand me...I still much prefer micing the amp. But when I can't, I use their rockerverb 50, tiny terror, twin (all of which I have in real life), and almost always the ampeg SVT classic bass rig. If amplitube would create a DR Z maz 18 I'd be set!

How do I adjust two mics on Acoustic Guitar

OK, as others have said, if you're new just use 1 mic for a while. In fact, most of my acoustic parts are still one mic. I only really use a stereo set up when I'm doing solo acoustic stuff or just want to fill in a lot of space. Avoid EQ for a bit, and compression. You can play with them...

    Background vocals; Special recording tips?

Ok, one more approach. Timing - get it spot on Tuning - get it spot on Record them a couple times so you can pan...I find hard R and hard L too artificial. Maybe 60% max for me. Compress them so they're pretty even volume wise. Reverb them - but not as much as you might think. Just enough to...

KC, the amplitube orange stuff is pretty good. I use a rockerverb 50 and tiny terror and they sound a lot like the real thing recorded. I the cabinets are hit and miss in Amplitube, but the amps are great.

Spam or not, the amplitube free stuff is pretty decent and for the price really decent.

oh, and if you like the micro terror, you can always get a nice used 1x12 to go with it. Used is cool because you can test it, then if you don't like it later on sell it for about the same price you bought it for and try something else.
