I know that mastering brings up the overall volume of a song quite a bit, but does this mean that a final mix is supposed to be quieter? I've recorded a bit, and every single song, even after a rough mix, is never loud enough, even when I make sure that levels peak at around correct points. Are...
I've been using Logic Pro on my Macbook Pro for a while now, and I really enjoy using it. But, I'm considering selling my computer, and that would mean no more recording, so I'd have to look into a digital multitrack. I've never used one, mainly because they seemed to difficult to use to work on...
When in a semi-professional recording situation, does the musician keep trying take after take after take until he gets a perfect one? Or is a decent take recorded and then fixed of all mistakes in post-production? I'm just curious as to how songs end up so musically flawless on CDs.
The Recorderman technique doesn't seem to pick up the cymbals well enough..I don't think I put them exactly in the right place, but they were pretty close. I'll give it another go and be more careful, but if not, I think I may just put them as a spaced pair, one for each cymbal, and that way...
I think I'm going to re-record this whole song.
When tracking, should every single instrument peak at the same level? Or should anything be hotter than the other?
And -10 is a good peak level while tracking?
That just seems really, really quiet. And my (incredibly limited) mixing skills...
That's definitely it - master was clipping real bad most of the way through. Where should the master bus peak for an ideal volume?
Will I need to re-record? I didn't track anything too hot, it was all under 0 I think. I just did a lot of gain increases while doing my quick "mix". I'll go back...
My band just finished recording a song, and I've got it all mixed and ready. I just bounced it from Logic into .mp3 format and brought it into iTunes. Its total volume is a great deal quieter and it sounds really weird and compressed. Now, I know .mp3 isn't the greatest of quality, but did I do...
I'm planning on getting some songs recorded in the next week or so, and haven't had a whole lot of time recording. I've done quick, sloppy demo stuff but never anything like I'm planning on doing now.
So I have a question. When tracking, (and this goes for everything - drums, guitar, bass...
I've been curious about compression lately - what it does, mostly, (I've come up with a pretty decent understanding..) but I'm not sure when to use it. What will something sound like when it needs compression, etc.
Thanks
Oh, and another thing. I'm sure this question applies to all Firewire interfaces...but:
When I'm using the FP to record on Logic, if I have something recorded on all eight channels, can I create a new track and use, say, channel 1 on the interface to make a track 9 on Logic after I've recorded...
The first two inputs of my Firepod are labeled Mic/Instrument, and the rest are labeled Mic/Line. Does Mic/Instrument mean that I can run a guitar or bass right in without a DI box?
And when I have Phantom power on channels 1-4, it wont do anything to the 1/4" jacks, will it?
Thanks
I use a 3-piece kit - snare, kick, floor tom, hi-hat and a crash. I'm planning on putting a 57 on the snare, 57 on the floor tom, D112 on the kick, and putting two Samson condensers as overheads. But I'm not sure where the best place to put the overheads would be. Should I use the Recorderman...
I haven't tried two different Firewire cables, I'll go out and get a new one and see if that works. I have tried both ports on the back, and neither work, so that could mean that the cable is messed up.
If the ports on the FP are in fact fried, is there any chance of a self-repair? Could it...
I just got a used FirePod today, and it didn't come with a manual or firewire or any software. I've been looking all over the internet for help, but I cant find any. The Presonus website says that no drivers are needed for OSX, and that you basically just plug the thing in and choose it from the...
Alright, I have a Yamaha MD4 minidisc 4 track recorder for sale. It's in really great condition, and works perfectly. The original manual is included, as well as 20 MD Data discs, which are VERY rare these days. I believe that a couple of them dont read correctly, but I'm going to test them...
I'm considering either a FS Project or a MOTU 8pre, but tons of people say the Firestudio has loads of problems. I'm using a maxed-out Macbook Pro, (the older one, so 2.4 ghz, 256 video memory, etc.) so I feel like I wont have any problems, but does anyone know from experience if this thing...
