Putting the Black Gate in at C6 and a film back at C7 I think is necessary with the cathode follower removed. It made a HUGE difference with the low end on my 1050. Like yours, it was way too bright before. Craig

I've only used the Standard Black Gates, so I can't comment on the NP's. Do you mean as far as cap upgrades, or the power supply in general.

The 2480 fits easily in the existing transformer housing. I used silicone glue to hold mine in. Since I did those samples, I found that Nady was just way too thin, and put a Black Gate back in at C6 and a metal film at C7 (the clips were made without C6 and C7). Makes the mic much more...

No, it's probably a 1G resistor. They were labeled the same thing in the mics I've worked on. Have you tried measuring it with a meter?

Experiments often stem from hypotheses, not theories. A theory that hasn't been tested or backed up by observation is not a theory. I'm not voting, either. Normalising would cover up valuable differences in the preamps, if they were, in fact, different. Craig

The compressor on my Joe Meek 3q does the highly colored optical compression trick pretty well. I really like it, but it isn't transparent at all.

What do your tracks sound like that makes you want to warm them up? What are you recording with now? The behringer thing is a solid state compressor that piles on some starved plate tube distortion, and it hardly sounds warm at all. It's a bit like a crummy exciter. I've fell for all that...

Ringo almost always overdubbed an extra snare to couteract the signal degredation from bouncing down the drums multiple times. Also, a KM56 was frequently used on the bottom of the snare (alsong with the overhead and kick mic), which could account for thinner sound produced by the snares...

I am considering buying a small diapragm condenser microphone with interchangeable capsules. Most of the mics I'm looking at are 22 mm in diameter. Can I use different manufacturer's capsules with the mic body I purchase? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking about buying a cheap mic...

I really like the sound without it, so I'm probably done with modding it. I'll post a few clips of voice and guitar of this mic, an Apex 460 with a CEK 367 capsule, and a Neumann U87 Ai so you guys can make a very unscientific comparison. Craig

So far, I like the mic best without C6 or C7. This is compared to leaving in both stock C6 and C7, and with C7 only.

mbrebes, I'm messing ordering caps right now with the intent on experimenting with C6 and C7. Would a higher value at C6 increase bass response? Thanks, Craig

amzavareei, What did you do at C6 and C7. I wonder if that has anything to do with missing low end?
