    PreSonus BlueTube DP?

I hate to say this, but there's no such thing as tube warmth. You'd better hop the solid state section in the BlueTube is good, because as rayc implied, the bringing the tube into the circuit may add something, but warmth probably isn't it. A real transformer in and out high voltage tube unit...

Group Buy TnC ACM-4 + Lundahl LL 2912 Transformer

I fit the Lundahl transformer and the K&K PCB in an Apex 205 (the little one) easily. Craig

Valve mic too sensitive for home studio!

Of course the original posted could've had the mic in Omni.

Valve mic too sensitive for home studio!

First, have you tried the cardioid and hypercardioid patterns. If you're getting too many other sound in hypercardioid, then you're room isn't suitable for recording, and most condenser mics will have similar problems, IMO. Craig

    Oktava MK-319 Mods ???

Is the transformer the wrong ratio? Curious to know. With the signal path caps replaced this mic cleans up really nice.

Tube mike VS. Mike with tube pre-amp

By Atom Heart Mother and Abbey Road, EMI was using EMI solid state desks. Don't know about the Doors, but by '68 (in the states)-'69, almost all major label work was being done on solid state consoles (an exception would be Muscle Shoals through the very early 70's).

Tube mike VS. Mike with tube pre-amp

A couple of times now, tube has been equated with better, and I really think that's a bad precedent. But, I will agree that when it comes to bang for your buck solid state is the way to go. If you want Pink Floyd, all their (post SOS) records were recorded on solid state desks.

Tube mike VS. Mike with tube pre-amp

Good point, especially in regards to ribbons and dynamics. I was in the condenser mindset.

Tube mike VS. Mike with tube pre-amp

The tube NEVER has the same function as a transformorer in a microphone. And yes, if the tube is doing it's job in the mic, it is amplifying the signal (but not up to line level obviously). To the original poster, I suggest buying good mics and pres regardless of their amplification component...

ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp

I've heard audio samples of the modded (not just the tube!) and they sounded like a simple, cleanish circuit. If you're REALLY on a budget, this might not be a bad option, but I'll stress again, that there are problems with the stock units in the gain section, which has little to do with the...

    Vintech Dual 72

The 1272 is similar in sound to the 1073 up to about 50dB of gain, then becomes very different. The 1272 is lacking a gain stage. I like the 1272 a lot though, and have never had to use more than half of its gain for things I record. Never tried the Vintech version, though. Craig

    Newmann TLM-103???

Not made at the Neumann factory, from what I understand (sennheiser). If it was the original Neumann company, they wouldn't put out stuff like most of the TLM series. I unlike many, like the U87Ai. If the reason you recommend buying the Neumann is resale value, then that's the wrong reason to...

    Newmann TLM-103???

The TLM103 is a nice $4-500 mic, but I wouldn't pay asking price for a new one.

expensive mics with not so expensive pre-amps?

Saying the preamp doesn't matter is ridiculous, especially at mixdown with a lot of tracks. I recorded my last album through an M-Audio Omni. Mixing a song for that record took my mix engineer forevever, and was a very frustrating experience for him. Since I've upgraded my pres, he gets a...

just got done with an LDC shootout...

A lot of what I'm hearing is the different positions of the mics. Even if it's a couple of inches, that's a big deal. Anyway, 2 sounded like it had a weak/funny sounding midrange. The other 3 I can handle.

    Why upside down?

Can't you elevate the mic and tilt it in the up position just as easily?
  18. C

    Why side address?

My SDC's tend to be very directional, and less tolerant if the singer moves much in comparison to my LDC's. Craig

    Why upside down?

The VF14 tube in the U47 and U48 is the only one that puts off that kind of heat to damage the capsule, and then that's only because the M7 capsule has a PVC diapragm. That's why you see them upside down in the Abbey Road pics. Your modern tube mics should be fine right side up, unless you...

Need 4 channels of digital input

Hi guys, Have a UA 2192 and Mytek stereo 96 ADC in the studio right now, so I need to get 4 digital inputs (AES probably) for a PC at a decent price. Any recommendations? Craig
