does any one use spectrum analysis to "lay out" final mix or for mastering or is this an irrelivant issue- or how do others put it to use?

i hear my vocal better with the compressor in line and input monitoring on i discovered that i can hear my vocal nuances better and it seems to feed my performance even better than reverb. although its not going onto the recording it has value. also i have m-audio firewire 410 but i don't know...

i like using compression for input monitoring my vocals but since it doesn't affect the volume to tape (a joke!) how do you know how hot the signal is thats being recorded does the track view monitor tell the truth in this situation. or you just take a stab in the dark at correct volume

what i meant was if you have volume decrease envelopes and then apply compression then the volume gets boosted back up thus compromising the envelope effect - but if i use post gain (whatever that is ) then i escape this issue ?

it seem that compression will negate the effects of volume envelopes (especially on vocals) is there a "right" way to use compression and volume envelopes -do they "mix"

will my 2.2 project be readable in 3.1 also how steep is the leap (learning curve) to 3.1 I was at a project 5 seminar recently and when instructor asked who had sonar 3 most of those people couldn't figure out how to use it !

i have sonar 2.2 and can't decide wether to buy renassance maxx (waves) or to to upgrade to 3.1 producer. is there a big difference is effects quakity and simplicity? does 3 still have poor dithering down to 16 bit and how steep is the learning curve- are there any other effects bundles worth...

audio engine off how do you know if audio engine is off and how do you turn it on i 've clicked the pads with a mouse and hit everynote on keyboard and enderal work fine but not cyclone

how do you know wether your actuall compressing -there is a row of light (input -40db on top) and below -(-40db gain reduction) with green to red colors (in the FX compressor/gate) what are these lights telling me -neither the book sonar power or the manual really explain how to view these lights

i got sounds from enderol with session drummer but when i envoke cyclone (with same technique) and assign loops to different pads and press "preview" i get no sounds is there something i'm missing like having midi keyboard hit the pad instead of preview "as the instructions say to do help
