This is some info I got today from Genelec in case someone wants to soffit mount their nearfields. Here are the recommended maximum listening distances based on dispersion and acoustic output for stereo environments. For Multichannel multiply by 1.33 1029A...5 feet 1030A...6 feet 1031A...7...

    Resilient Channel

What would be a more effective way of using resilient channel on a ceiling.... 1. Attaching one side of the resilient channel directly to the ceiling beams and on the other side attach layers of sheetrock, mdf, etc... or 2. Sealing the Ceiling first with one layer of 3/4" mdf then attaching...

    soffit mounts

Thanks John. Rochey, I've read in a few threads that the 20/20 bas sound good when they are soffit mounted and since those are the only monitors I have for now I figure why not do it. Just do a search on 20/20 or soffit and you'll find more information. Cheers, Luis.

    soffit mounts

I am planning on soffit mounting my 20/20bas speakers and I have 2 questions in regards to soffit construction. 1.Does the cavity where the speaker goes in need to be airtight en exactly the size of the speaker? The reason why I ask this is because the 20/20bas has all the connectors on the...

    Please check design .....

Hi John, 3 questions: On the attached drawing... Would the 12 degree angle work for what you are talking about? Is the angle of my soffit wall pointing to the sweetspot correct? Should I make the angled ceiling a slot resonator or would that cause a problem with my nearfields?

Hi Kevin, I can't remember how thick was the rockwool you used in your studio (3" or 4" ). I called a few places and they only carry mineral wool 4" thick and they couldn't tell me the sound absortion values. I don't want to get the wrong stuff. I also got a quote on 3lb knauf 2" 2'x4'...

    Helmholtz resonator Question ?

Doing the calculations for a V-shape resonator using the Helmholtz calculator at the SAE site with the dimensions below gives the absorption frequencies, 201 Hz and 377 Hz. Since the depth to the wall will change due to the V-shape, does this mean it only absorves those 2 frequencies or for...
