Pigs (Three Different Ones) - Pink Floyd Cover

Thanks! I raised the levels and compressed the kicks snares as much as I could. Curious to know if anyone thinks the drums sound fine/okay?

Pigs (Three Different Ones) - Pink Floyd Cover

Thanks man. The 'rooting" sound is a guitar run through a Slow Gear volume swell. Relieved to hear you approve of the cowbell!

Pigs (Three Different Ones) - Pink Floyd Cover

Yeah we used a slight chorus effect on the vocal bus. Is it a bad/distracting "weird" or just a stylistic "weird"? The vocals are double (sometimes triple) dubs which may explain the combing.

Pigs (Three Different Ones) - Pink Floyd Cover

Thanks for the reviews guys. "skanky guitar sound" - LOVE that description. I didn't conciously realize it at the time, but that's exactly what I wanted from the guitar tone. Something trashy. It's about Pigs after all. Any other thoughts by diehard Floyd fans?

    Pigs (Three Different Ones)

Interesting observations, but you're right. Now the question I have is - do you see it as a cool stylistic twist or a real detractor from the song?

    Pigs (Three Different Ones)

Gotcha. Does anyone else think this? I am struggling with EQ'ing the tone. I was originally a fan of the trashy, trebly, tone that felt nasty like a pig. Does the tone work or not really? Curious to know what ya'll think. Thanks for the inputs!!

    Pigs (Three Different Ones)

Good call on the drums. I can raise them in the mix. Where is the ambiance in the guitars? Are you referring to the rhythm guitar? Lead? What part in the song? Do you think the added crunch to the rhythm guitar tone adds some fire?

    Pigs (Three Different Ones)

Thanks for the feedback! By "hollow" what exactly do you mean? The rhythm tone was done on a Boss GT-10 overdriven Tube Preamp sim pumped through my Peavey Classic 30 tube amp speaker (mic'd). I do shift the rhythm guitar to a left pan so could that be it? The early timing rush, is that just...

    Pigs (Three Different Ones)

Hey all, Looking for thoughts on my cover of the Pink Floyd classic "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", specifically two areas: 1.) General impression/How does the overall track feel? Does it move you? 2.) Specific thoughts on the mixing/engineering. HUGE thanks for listening through this 11...

Pigs On The Wing pt 1 (Pink Floyd cover)

Thank you. Interesting point about the stereo guitar, I was wondering if someone would comment on that. It's a true second guitar part, and not a fake stereoization or anything. I tried taking out the second guitar part but it just feels more "full-bodied" and warmer with the second guitar in...

Pigs On The Wing pt 1 (Pink Floyd cover)

Yeah there are a few times the vocals kick in slightly behind the beat. It was a challenge recording the guitar without a timekeeper (drums, metronome), but I think it works in an unconventional, stylistic way. Do you think Waters used a metronome when he recorded the original?

Why is my iPhone mic better than my $100 dynamic!?

Thanks so much for the explanations guys. They are putting my paranoia at ease. I've been recording via Boss GT10 direct in cab sims for a few years, but I recently decided explore amp mic'ed recordings. So the consensus seems to be that the Senn is capturing a true, flat, unprocessed sound...

Why is my iPhone mic better than my $100 dynamic!?

Mixing gurus I need your help! This is the same riff, recorded using two different mics. One is from an iPhone, the other from a Sennhesier e609 dynamic mic using an Alesis MultiMix4 USB audio interface via ASIO4 into FL9. Both mics were placed at the same spot on the speaker under the same...
