    Sheep - Pink Floyd cover

Thanks bud. Tried to breathe some more energy into this underrated PF track. Good observations. Yeah that transition was tricky because of a slight tempo change (I'm assuming you mean right after the Rhodes/Bass intro ends).

    Sheep - Pink Floyd cover

Yes definitely, my drums are a bit "wetter" with reverb than Nick's kit. I was, after all, going for a bigger sound than the PF original. Getting a truly human feel with micro-variations in the programming is indeed a tough task. It's interesting to learn how sensitive different listeners are...

    Sheep - Pink Floyd cover

Thanks! But damn, I was feeling pretty good about the drums and hoped no one would call them out(yes they're VST). Can you elaborate? Where do they feel stiff? Do they at least sound real? Or is it just their rhythm that sounds stiff?...and also are you a drummer?

    Sheep - Pink Floyd cover

Thanks, and definitely agree with your observation on the levels. I can definitely fix those levels w/ the the drums @ 7:00 and outro vocals.

    Sheep - Pink Floyd cover

Thanks buddy. The keyboards were performed by my keyboardist and are all done through VST's (not sure which ones exactly). The drums are indeed programmed. You think they could pass for a real drummer? Check out my other Animals tracks on SC: Dogs - Pink Floyd cover by Mothers Talk | Free...

    Sheep - Pink Floyd cover

Fellow musicians/producers, Looking for thoughts on the latest installment of my Animals cover - "Sheep". Perhaps the most underrated track on the album. What do ya'll think? Sheep - Final Draft 09JUN v3 by Mothers Talk | Free Listening on SoundCloud

Sign 'o the Times (Prince cover)

Thanks buddy - getting the nod from a fellow Prince fan is hugely reassuring. The problem with a lot of Sign of the Times covers (including the overrated Muse cover) is that they sap all the funk and space out of it - which we both agree is the true magic of Prince's original.

Sign 'o the Times (Prince cover)

Ok track is updated. The damned vocal levels are driving me nuts lol. I boosted the two vocal climax parts ("aint it silly no when a rocketship explodes"). I think it sounds consistent now, but you be the judge: Always a relief to hear the approval of a fellow Prince fan. I did NOT want to f*ck...

Sign 'o the Times (Prince cover)

Interesting advice, and thanks. I tried a gentle 2-3db cut on the low and high mids for the vocals and a 2db cut on the 400hz-1.5Khz mud on the guitar. VERY subtle. Improvement?

Sign 'o the Times (Prince cover)

Thanks for the review. Had you read the earlier comment about the vocal level prior to listening? lol. I'm just curious because I can't seem to notice any vocal level inconsistencies and they seem to cut through the instrumental nicely- but maybe my ears are just used to it. Is this critique...

Sign 'o the Times (Prince cover)

Thanks bud. Do you mean the vocal levels are too quiet or is it just (like you said) a performance/articulation thing and not a mix thing? By ducking do you just mean compression? I'm actually am using some compression on the vox already FWIW (12.5 attack, 95 release, -6.6 thresh, 2.0:1 ratio).

Sign 'o the Times (Prince cover)

Alright guys, any Prince fans in the house? Did a simple (and also one of my favorite) Prince tracks as an intro to learning how to work electronic instruments. Looking for thoughts on 1.) mix quality and 2.) performance quality. Thanks! Sign o' the Times [Draft v9] by Mothers Talk | Free...

    Lotus Flower cover [Radiohead]

Interesting, this is the first time this has been brought to my attention. I've never really noticed or been bothered by any hiss - but maybe I'm just used to the natural hiss of my amp. I used some mid-level compression stomp, univibe amped actually through a bass amp for that crystal clean...

    Lotus Flower cover [Radiohead]

Aw man, I love the univibe! Radiohead actually didn't use it much, but it gives it the dreamy quality I was after...I intentionally sang the vocals quietly and loose to make them sound more depressing.

    Dogs (Pink Floyd cover)

Haha yes I've posted each track off our Animals cover project as they near completion, some of them have similar names but are totally different (i.e. Pigs On The Wing Pt1 and Pigs Three Different Ones). But this is the first and only posting of Dogs :-) This track was recorded in the studio...

Bueller? Is it that bad, too long, or just no Pink Floyd fans in the house?

    Dogs (Pink Floyd cover)

Hey all, Finally finished mixing my band's latest installment in our Animals cover - the legendary 17-minute trip that is Dogs. We aimed for something respectful of the original but with a modern sheen. What do ya'll think?! https://soundcloud.com/stephan-mathos/dogs/s-5Lju5
