Audacity is definately free. It's not really a multitrack mixer. It will record and playback multiple tracks, but it's mixing capabilities are limited. Specifically the gain and pan controls are clumbsy and it doesn't support real time effects. It's a great tool for just about everything else.

This one was fun, but took me a whie to get my head around. I spent some time on the core stuff and then hustled the rest of it up at the last minute. I think this one rewarded those of us with less eq-fu, as long as we left well enough alone, since the tracks were great to start with...

Ya, software does have to be recompiled to take full advantage of the 64 registers. But the cpu is likely plumbed with twice the bandwidth so there's going to be lot's of dividends, even running 32 bit code. And I"m sure it uses the extra beef whenever it can. One of the highlites for the 64...
