    Public Mix Contest #6

I just sorted the member list by rep power and you'll never guess who's at the top of the list, heh. Chris even has two little green squares instead of EVERYONE else who only has one.

    Public Mix Contest #6

nobody seems to have taken massive liberty with the tunes so I don't care if we let it be. judges, I think it would be nice to judge the songs anyhow even if they be disqualified.

my mix is up (or going up now). I wish I could have dumped the vocal double, that's about the only thing that I didn't have at least some idea for. Real bongos would have been cool :) I didn't really get my head around the whole mix. I mostly focus on a few elements and try not to ruin it...

    My First Tube Amp-Some Questions

problems are almost always the tube. An old amp can go through caps, that's hip for some piece in side the head, I think it's some kind of capacitor or something heh. A few times I've taken my amp into the shop and the guy just swaps out a tube and it's fixed. Eventually I'll get around to...

    Distortion Pedals

I'm a big DS-1 fan. Having said that, it is what it is. If I could only put one pedal in my case it'd be the DS-1, oddly enough only one fits, and there's a DS-1 there lol. It's not going to compete with a real amp, no way. You can get some jangly tones at low gain levels, and some good...

    your honest opinion please

Sounds pretty good. The tracks have a live sound to them that's a little distant, but it sounds cool. Could use more kick drum.

I should have used a smiley, that was supposed to be funny in a dim witted sort of way. These massive mixes are a challenge for me, but I guess that's what this is all about, so hell, bring 'em on

    This tune needs more percussion

    It's Perfect!!!!!!!

I think the mix is really good. The stereo crickets could come down a bit tho. The ambience is really nice, and the overall sound is balanced and pleasing. I can see why you liked the mix. The vocal issue that's been mentioned sound to me like a single offending track, the center main chorus...

    Audacity Vs. Cubase or Cakewalk?

Audacity is definately free. It's not really a multitrack mixer. It will record and playback multiple tracks, but it's mixing capabilities are limited. Specifically the gain and pan controls are clumbsy and it doesn't support real time effects. It's a great tool for just about everything else.

    Public Mix Contest #5

This one was fun, but took me a whie to get my head around. I spent some time on the core stuff and then hustled the rest of it up at the last minute. I think this one rewarded those of us with less eq-fu, as long as we left well enough alone, since the tracks were great to start with...

Which software you use to make audio recording

    BoB Katz & dithering

heh, I guess the topic has moved on, I saw fourier and some other things mentioned a few posts back and had to weigh in.

    BoB Katz & dithering

I don't know if this was straightenned out or not, I only read most of the posts. Most things DSP are based on Fourier, but that has little to do with the basic concept of digital audio. Speakers produce sound by moving in and out. It's creating complex waves in the atmosphere which we...

Final Mix http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1830&alid=476 ->mc5 The shear size of this project made it difficult. Looking back, mixing down all the background vocals into a stereo mix would have been helpfull. Excellent tracks, I doubt there will be a bad mix (except maybe...

can't really offer any educated opinion. Some killer tunes there. The mastered stuff sounds damn good, very crisp.

    64 bit v. 32 bit chips

Ya, software does have to be recompiled to take full advantage of the 64 registers. But the cpu is likely plumbed with twice the bandwidth so there's going to be lot's of dividends, even running 32 bit code. And I"m sure it uses the extra beef whenever it can. One of the highlites for the 64...

    Public Mix Contest #5

ack, it's not sample information, I got mixed up with something, but there's some kind of proprietary chunk at the start of the file. I"m thinking about writing something to strip it out, should I bother?
