There's also the Yamaha MT8X and MT8XII...
...which used the same head design from TASCAM's 488 and other 8-track cassette machines. This of course means that tapes made on the Yamaha MT8X/MT8XII are compatible with the TASCAM 488, 488MKII, etc., and vise-versa. I know this for a fact because...
Yeah...
I get what you mean. Companies like Mattel (sp?) used that parallel groove thing on their talking dolls. That's how they said different things when you pulled the little string-thingy. There actually was this mini phonograph encased within the doll, and each pull of the string set the...
SILVERTONES???
I'm hoping you mean that in a positive way, but this thread is about "the absolute worst guitar," so I think perhaps not. Thing is, I had one of those amp-in-the-case things as well: a 1963/64 Silvertone Model 1457 w/2 "lipstick" pickups. I bought it from a friend for $25.00. I...
Samick guitars are pretty good
Samicks are good and have actually gotten better over the years. I can say this because I've lived in Korea off and on for nearly 7 years now and have had several. I used to have an ES335 copy back in 93 that I bought here. Nice, but a few finish flaws. I can tell...
Maxell
Yes, I agree that Maxells are pretty hard to beat for overall durability. TOne potential drawback, though, is that they sometimes have very noisy spindles - squeak like the devil while they're in motion. Doesn't really affect the quality of the recording, unless of course you're using a...
Re: Truly Amazing
[The real question is this, how much does the love for the music itself influence our choice of best produced. Did anyone pick a record with absolutely shit songs on it becuase the production was just so damn good. No, I did not see that. Some might argue otherwise (backstreet...
Pledge, lemon oil, FAST FRET...
Pledge works well enough on the body of the guitar, but IT WILL cause the binding to yellow. I both read and was told this repeatedly when I was much younger, ignored it, used Pledge, and now have yellowed bindings. Guess I should've listened...
Of course, if...
I've got an Event EMP-1
Okay, I'll admit I haven't done a lot of comparison shopping in the mic pre category, but the Event EMP-1 (no tubes, BTW) I ended up purchasing suits me just fine. I bought it in Feb. 2000 for around $200. Very, very quiet, crisp, and clean. Looks pretty cool, too, with...
My vote goes for the monitors first, too. That's perhaps the most important pert of your recording chain. However, I can gurarantee that when you have decent monitors, you'll then be able to appreciate why you would beneift from having a preamp as well.
A preamp will bring out the clarity...
recording acoustic
A bit obvious maybe, but here goes: Whichever acoustic sounds good to you is the one to use. Try out as many as you can and evaluate. Mic technique should definitely not be overlooked, too! The key point is that YOU like how it sounds, plain and simple. A cheap, beat-up piece...
Almost 27 years now. You'd THINK I'd be phenomenal, but...
It's a hobby. Did it semi-professionally in the early 80's for a very short time. mostly, I just play because it makes me feel good. It's the best therapy one could ever ask for.

You can get all 8 tracks out separately
... at least, this is true with the 488 mkII. That machine also doesn't have individual outs for each track (what was TASCAM thinking?!), but if you follow this link, you'll find out how it can be done...

Fender, etc.
I once had a Fender Pro Reverb, which I bought new in 1981. Worst thing I ever did was sell it. I wasn't playing out anymore, and had gone to more compact amps. What a sweet sounding amp it was! The friend I sold it to still has it, fortunately, though it's a little worse for the...
Acoustics: I second the guy who mentioned Seagull. That's an awesome company that puts out a greqt product.
Electrics: Hard to say, but the first quality one I had was a Gibson "The Paul" black walnut affair w/"Dirty Fingers" humbuckers. Like a fool, I sold it. I've regretted that move ever...
Amazing! All these years using the DR-660 and 770, and I couldn't put my finger on exactly why I liked them so much. You guys have hit the proverbial snare on the head. Thanks!
I'm going back to bed now.

I don't write very often, but when I do it's because the words or music (rarely both at the same time) MUST come out. I can't explain it, really. It's like the feeling you have when you need to go to the toilet.

Underated drummers
Bev Bevan ...
Ringo ...
Ian Mosely ...
Ringo ...
Roger Taylor ...
who else...?
oh yes, and Ringo
On the other hand, his (Ringo's) "underrated drumming" has been quite overdiscussed through the years. Rock solid time keeper, though, and a most tasteful simplicity...
Does anyone else think it's odd...
... "acoustic guitar amp", that is?
Yes, I know what they are. The term itself just strikes me as peculiar. I'd put that one just under "military intelligence" and "athletic scholarship" on the oxymoron list.

Anthony Phillips (original guitarist in Genesis) - He creates some amazing textures with a 12-string guitar. Uses some ingenious tunings, too.
Steve Hackett (also former Genesis man) is an all-around great player with a sound all his own. He was doing the tapping thing back in '72...
