Maybe that's not the problem after all.
If you were recording them both to one track during the tracking process, then it stands to reason that you would have noticed the phasing yourself right after listening back to the track - it would have sounded very tinny and without body. Remember that...
Back when I USED TO have a nice setup, it was still pretty simple:
Guitar: Gibson "The Paul"
Electro-Harmonix Linear Power Booster (LPB) II
Vox-King Wah-Wah (maybe this was in the effects chain ahead of the LPBII, but I can't remember at the moment)
Electro-Harmonix Polyflanger
... all...
Trim is for the mic preamp
Basically it's another word for "gain." That's the preamp that boosts the rather weak signal that comes from microphones.

Brian May got a sitar sound out of an ordinary acoustic guitar
He used that sound on two Queen songs: "White Queen" (Queen II) and "Jealousy" (Jazz). I seem to remember his saying he got the sitar sound by placing bits of wire in the string grooves on the nut. Every time the strings vibrate...
You be the judge
That's a hard call, especially if the performer is also the writer/arranger.
What does it sound like in the mix? Is it an obvious "flaw," or just a bit rough around the edges? And what kind of music are you doing, anyway? Different styles allow varying degrees of wiggle room...
Here's a link to a thread on the tascam.com message board. Scroll down a bit, and a guy called Jay Storey has some interesting things to say about recording to VCRs.

I've done some recording to a Hi-Fi- VCR as well. It sounds...
hard drive upgrade
Pardon the amature question, but how did you go about upgrading the hard drive? And how do you know what the speed is to begin with? I don't see any mention of it in the manual. BTW, as you yourself noticed before, I have pretty much the same laptop that you have.
Thanks in...
Check out the Boston BB
Come on over and check out the Boston Bulletin Board on their website www.boston.org
Although we members have long complained about the lack of updates and bandmember posts, there are still a lot of great people there to talk to. You should also check out the "Tech...
Get the Dr-770
I'm not a drummer, but I found it relatively easy to use. It's got some GREAT sounds, it's simple to program as far as drum machines go, and it's very flexible in what it can do. Under $400.00, too, last time I checked.

Check out Tech 21's Trademark 10 and Trademark 60
Tech 21 is the company that makes the Sansamp pedals. Their amps are 100% solid state, but they use their own patented tube emulation circuitry that quite honestly sounds pretty damned amazing. This is not to be confused with digital modeling...
Very useful tips!
Thanks again Chris! [he bows deeply and gracefully]
The advice about the CD-RW is VERY useful, though it'll be a while before I'm able to pick up a USB device. That's okay with me, though, as in the interim I'll be compiling as much info about all this stuff as I can...
Thanks guys!
That's good news! Guess it's time to explore the USB options.
Chris, do you also have the CD burner on your model? If so, how well does it work for you?
Thanks to both of you!

Okay, here's the deal: I recently got this laptop as a gift (specs below)
Now don't get me wrong; I really appreciated getting it. As you can see, it has lots of bells and whistles, including a
CD-RW...
...but there's a BIG catch: no line input (mic in only). I've been wanting to transfer...
The first Boston album...
... and pretty much every subsequent album was recorded at Tom Scholz's home studio. Granted, the guy's somewhat of an electronics genius (he's got a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT), and of course he eventually got some pretty kickass gear, but that first...
Never use metal tape in a portastudio!
If that's what you're doing, then you need to stop immediately! Portastudios were not designed to be used with Type IV (metal) tape. For one, they don't put out a hot enough signal to record on metal tape, so no matter how well you do your recordings...

I think it was a 16 track, too
At least that's what I heard. It was probably two 16-tracks synched. I could be wrong, though. The story about the tape going transparent is apparently true. After passing over the heads so many times during tracking, some oxide eventually flakes off. I think that...
