    Mixing Rhythm Guitars & Solos

I split the guitars 50% left and right with the solo centered. Harmony solo parts go about 25% left and right. On Led Zep "Over the Hills and Far Away" the solo pans back and forth. Listening to it in headphones makes some people queasy.

What brand of CD's for VF160

I scored 100 TDK CDRs on clearance at Target for $11. They work great.

    Considering VF-160EX vs. Zoom 1266/1608

The VF160 is easy to use and sounds great. You can do EVERY step of the recording process with it. The automated mixing is really nice. The sound quality is good enough to make CDs to sell at gigs or on a website. I have yet to hear any complaints about the quality. A band I recorded a few songs...

    Fostex VF160EX Or PC Based

I'm in the "nothin' but the vf160" crowd. I use it from tracking to mastering. I only go to the PC for adding track names, ripping mp3s and duping disks.

Will someone please explain Auto-punch feature on VF-160?

Get one of these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_id/42174 For under $30, you cannot afford not to have one. The 8051 Footswitch makes punches painless. Just arm the tracks, press play, step on it when the time comes and step on it again when you are done. Too easy.

    Cheap bass

I bought a $100 Rogue bass from Musicians Friend(excellent etailer). The electronics were a little noisey. If the volume is at 0.5 it sounds fine. The neck is great. All of the frets are set and dressed really well. The action is good too. I can play as fast on it as I can on my Les Paul...

    Product questions.

I've been using a VF160 extensively for about four months. I think it is one kick ass piece of gear. It doesn't color the sound. My only gripe is that the built in compressor can only be used on a few tracks, so you have to bounce stuff around to use it. I just went with an outboard compressor...

    questions on VF160EXCDR

I record drums on eight tracks by using six dynamic mics and two condenser mics. I run two dynamics through a dbx 266XL compressor with kick and snare on to tracks one and two, four dynamic mics on toms to tracks three thru six and two condenser mics as over heads on tracks seven and eight...

    Fostex VF160

I've had my VF160 since April. Picked it up from Musicians Friend for $699 w/CDRW. I don't like the compressor limitations. It can't be used on all channels without bouncing tracks. What a hassle, so I bought a dbx 266XL. Take that Fostex! It only has 2 XLR connections. That's not really a...

    VF-160 Track Mastering

orc, what do you mean? I have heard some radio ready stuff that was done intirely internal with a vf-160(fostex.com has a forum and song section). From what I've been able to gather, mastering consists of what is done to the song(s) between the final mix and the duplication master. Using...

    VF-160 Track Mastering

Someone posted this on another BBS. They claim it works quite well. Hopefully, I'll have time to try it out this week. 1) Perform internal mixdown. 2) Set Chan 1 to Aux 1, PRE fader 3) Set Chan 2 to Aux 2, PRE fader 4) Route Aux 1 to Stereo left of effects chain, route Aux 2 to Stereo right of...
