check out this new rock song i'm working on

Wow - catchy, I like it. Very poppy sounding, but not annoyingly so. Although that could be because it lacks the stereotypical immasculated male singer haha.

Hey guys help me out with this mix!

Guitars sound very nice. Good job there. I agree that the kick is annoying though. I don't know if it's the EQ job so much as it just sounds completely lifeless - like someone is slapping a the side of a plastic trash bin with a dead fish. Maybe consider blending another sample in with the...

    Rate this mix? Metal song.

What's up guys? Right now this is just an instrumental, I'm thinking of adding vocals, but I'm not sure if the song needs them or not. Drums: Midi track run through Steven Slate Drums Bass: bass guitar -> line 6 gearbox guitars: Jackson DKMG -> Peavey Revalver I know that this mixdown...

New Hard Rock Tune "Closer To Hell", Sound Feedback

I love your guitar tone. Perfect for this music. This reminds me like a mix of 90's era grunge with Black Label Society. Great playing, great vocals, great mix. Sorry I can't add anything useful :-p

Re-recording an album. New metal mixes.

Listening to Muerto En Vida. I think the drums sound fine, but the snare sounds a little lifeless and burried. I don't think taking reverb off of it will help. I think what you need to do is turn up the overheads in relation to your close-mics. The life of the drums comes from the sound of...

    Another Metal Mix

I'm gonna offer my insight here, and maybe some of this has been said before as I didn't read through the entire thread. Natural sounding drums do NOT have to mean a bad metal mix. Listen to As the Palaces Burn by Lamb of God. Granted, not everyone is going to be a fan of that style of mix...

    Holy Diver - DIO tribute

Everything sounds fantastic man. Great job on the vocals. My only complaint is that I wish the bass had a little more low-end. I can hear it in the presence range, but I can tell it's not offering anything significant in the balls department.

    Song need Feedback please...

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the rhythm guitar tone either. They sound washy and kind of weak. This song needs the sound of a big tube amp being driven at a high volume. Something like an older Marshall, or you could even go with a 5150 style Peavey. Something with more balls. I'm not saying...

    Trying to mix metal track...

Im going to listen to it right now, but just from reading your post I can mention that you should almost never have a rhythm track down the middle. When you are doing stops and breaks where the band wants to drop out and you want to go for effect, that's fine to have a center-panned rhythm...

    Heavy but too muddy

WAY too pumpy. I'm also going to let you in on a secret that is essential for hard rock/metal music. Your drums are the single most important thing when it comes to determining the quality and the attitude of your mix. If your drums sound like shit, your song will suck, or it will lack the...

    Apology

Hey man, no hard feelings. I just wanted to make sure that you understood how everyone really felt, and that I think everyone has felt like you at one point.

    Hey, Live recording feedback please!

You start off rough and are rather pitchy until the second chorus, which is where you finally start to hit your stride. To be honest, I'm not sure what you are looking for feedback on here. There's an accoustic guitar and a vocal track...if you are going for a live feel I would take down the...

    Can I rock?

I'd be willing to bet that your multiple (and unnecessary) layers of extra EQ combined with logic's built in amp sim are the result of your messy tone. Invest in some better amp sims, and work hard on getting the best sound possible you can at the source. It's possible to get great tones from...

    Big Guitar Sound

Definitely this. Before anything that I or anyone else says about EQ, work on getting better tone. Your tone from the amp should be 90% of the finished sound, and the EQ should just be the last little adjustments that make it perfect. Dont try to dig a good sounding tone out of a pile of...

    Witchhunt

Nice song. I like the riffs and the music. Something sounds a little off with the drums. The snare rubs me the wrong way for some reason. It sounds very artificial, and I think that's killing the mood for me a little. I definitely agree with the Rob Halford comments, you have an awesome...

    Big Guitar Sound

Im gonna disagree, I think the one labeled "mix 3" (it shows up as flood 4 in windows media player) sounds much better. I dont know if you changed the levels of the bass guitar or anything but overall that mix sounds way better. flood 3 has a little bit too much 1.5k in the guitars and doesnt...

    Big Guitar Sound

Yeah, better, but you killed too much bass. These guitars need some more presence at 125 Hz and 500 Hz. I still think they need more gain too. I would say go halfway between what you had and this, and then up the gain, and you should be pretty close.

    Big Guitar Sound

I'm not a huge fan of the guitar tone, although you are on the right track. They need a little more gain in my opinion, as well as a high shelf to help them cut through a little bit. They also need some EQ and compression. I would recommend running Waves C4 with Andy Sneap's preset on them...

Metal song, needs some mixing advice!

Hey guys! So I know it's been a while for this post. I'm finally giving you guys the updated version of this song for your critique. Pretty much everyone's feedback (that was good feedback at least) was taken into consideration with this mix. So thanks for listening and I hope this one...

I usually don't post here, but...

Holy crap, this would be good for a bunch of adults, but for kids of the ages you described, I'm honestly blown away. And your mix is awesome by the way. I can't really nitpick anything on it. I even like the slight pump you gave the mix at points. Great job man, and I hope to see these kids...
