So if I got a firebox I'd have no latencey...?

through the headphone amp on the front of the firepod, yes. through anything else, no.

    would this be effective?

I'd never record in a closet. Id put the vocal filter pad thing behind the mic, then hang up blankets draped around mic stands on both sides of the singer and mic to block stuff from the sides. I'd do this in a room though, not a closet.

    Cubase SX3 + Dual/Quad core?

Old is relative. I meant old enough to have been introduced when SX3 was still Steinbergs main focus. 4x cores came out after Steinberg did that last update to SX3, so I wasn't sure if it would work.

    Cubase SX3 + Dual/Quad core?

Better plugins take more cpu. Try running a song with 50-60 tracks with the kind of plugins I prefer on your 800mhz system. Doesn't work. If you want to use plugins that are 5 years old, and that works for you, fine. It doesn't work for me. A reverb, or an EQ might take up as much as 10% cpu on...

If you had only one reverb plug-in?

UAD EMT 140. SIR sucks, never ever gotten any IR to sound even remotely good in that. And I've got gigs of IR's. Altiverb is pretty cool. The best software reverbs, in no particular order: UAD 140 Classik Studio Reverb Arts Acoustic Reverb Altiverb

I record vocals at whatever sample rate the rest of the song is in! But yeah, 44.1

    Phase Cancellation

NO DO NOT DO THIS. Or at least listen VERY CAREFULLY and see if you like it, don't just automatically do this. There is no way to make the entire kit phase coherent. Lining up everything to the snare is probably going to fuck up the phase of everything else, making the entire kit sound...

    Cubase SX3 + Dual/Quad core?

So I don't have a freeze tracks when using many plugins, or plugins with high cpu usage.

What do U think ov diss rock stuph I recorded?

a soundelux u195 and an sm57. If I used the 57 it was very low in the mix. I didn't really care for the guitar tone but the guitarist said that's what he wanted, so we went with it.

I'd like the vox to sound more upfront and meaty sounding. I'm not a huge fan of the ambience/space put on the vox. The guitars on mine have more bite, but maybe too much. I like the snare sound. I like the effect on the long drawn out "chiiiiiiiild" in the middle, what did you do there, some...

For guitars I added some 6k, some 350, rolled off at 70 with a HPF. I also panned the double for each take apart from each other, whereas all the other mixes I listened to, people panned the 2 takes from each guitar part on the same side. They seemed less phasy sounding that way. I also...

How can i fix acoustic bleeding? (song inside for example)

As I understand it, the preamp gain has nothing to do with what the mic picks up. The preamp goes after the microphone.

Here's my first mix. Don't know if I have time to do another without sacrificing time I've alotted to getting drunk. Vox might be a tad loud, making guitars/drums not seem as powerful. Here you go. Never thought of multiband to tame pops, that's a great idea. I'll implement that into a 2nd mix...
